Default Rancher 420 in/out 4 wheel

I was told by my dealer, as long as the wheels were not spinning you could shift on the fly. I have shifted into 4wd up to 18mph, and never had a problem.

you mean to tell me the honda dealer didnt even mention a simple thing like that when you bought the machine? i bet he didnt tell you that honda doesnt have true 4wd either. Also down below you have all these fourwheelers that would have had 4wd, wouldnt you know how to do it, its not like they would change the whole set up lol.Try out a new brand like suzuki and maybe the dealer will explain it to you.

When I bought mine, The dealer told me I should stop before shifting in or out of 4x4, and it didn't have to be in neutral. A few times I shifted at low speeds with no problems.

Kingquad---- My little 3 wheel drive rancher has no trouble going where any other 4x4 will go, and sometimes they can't go where I can go.
I will pass on the Suzuki, I like my Honda's just fine

my dealer told me with the traxloc 4x4 you can change between on the fly. i have done it both moving, and at a stand still as well, and neither had any problem. i would suggest doing it while both front, and rear end tires are at the same rpm.

i have heard its possible to shift into 4wd on the go but if not done correctly you can ruin the transmission. You can switch out of 4wd on the go tho

i was going about 35-40 with my rancher in 4wd and shifted into 2wd, and the light stayed on until i stopped. it didnt make a sound or anything. it still works fine. but you cant really shift it in and out at higher speeds which isnt a huge deal. i love this rancher even compared to the bigger CC machines. its much more nimbler.

"it is obviously not." How do you know? I haven't done anything with the new model 4WD but am pretty sure it is the same as the old one, a simple cable operated dog clutch. The signal for the 4WD symbol is from a switch, once the dogs go into mesh the switch signals it has, to the dash.
