Differences 2004 & 2005 Honda Foreman Rubicon?
#1
Hey guys,
I've been looking at Honda Foreman Rubicons for sale. I'm looking to get a 2004 or older, because I like the older styling, especially the square taillights, not to mention they are cheaper. Now I know that from 2004 to 2005 the Rubicon was re-designed cosmetically, more rounder. I'm wondering if the 04 and 05 are the same bike with regard to the engine and transmission? I know the 04 and olders have the CVT auto, but I'm wondering if they have the push-button shifting with the preset gear ratios as well? I drove an 05+ and I know for a fact it had the ESP and D1, D2. I'm just wondering if an 04 or older had it as well? I'm hoping they don't, been having lots of problems with an 04 rancher es and it shifts are so clunky. I really want a nice auto, but with no crazy electronics that will get messed up. I've driven an 03 Prairie which is nice and reliable, but I hate the design, which leads me to an 04 or older Rubicon. Thanks!

The Rubicon has always had the hydrostat transmission, which is completely different than the ES bikes. I think they all had the push button shifting option. In the last couple years they did away with the D1/D2 thing.
When they switched to the new style I believe they also went from front drum brakes to front disks.

I have a 2001 and a friend has a 2005, they also enlarged the carb and fuel tank and made the suspention softer in 2005, much more sporty of a ride- not sure if it really has that much of a power difference though, in 4wd drag races my friend barly leads me and we are the same weight. I think they took D2 out in 2008
