How do you remove axle on 04 recon 250 ES?

Default How do you remove axle on 04 recon 250 ES?

I need tips on removing and replacing rear axle on 04 honda recon 250...does it knock out or do i have to open rear end?

It just knocks out and is held by a compression ring like on all ATVs. Go on you tube and look up "ATV axle removal" or "CV boot change" and see one being done,there all done much the same way no matter what brand or model.

Thanks...I have heard both ways knockout and open rear end...never thought about you tube....where is the compression ring located?...behind the 2 locknuts?

OOOPs, sorry never read your post right, I thought you meant a CV axle which a recon does not have.
Still a you tube search should still work.

Heres your rear in a parts diagram if that helps.

thanks...yeah it is a straight shaft axle no cv's I have the diagram already but still don't know if it knocks out or have to open rear end...trying not to open if I dont have to....appreciate your help.

The service manual states to remove the axle by tapping with a rubber hammer from the left side as sitting on the atv. Of course this is after everything else that needs to be removed is removed.

The rear end does not have to be opened.

Of course this is after everything else that needs to be removed is removed
By the above pic I would say those are the parts between 23 and 14.

what else has to be removed? I mean beside the wheels and one side of hub.....Thanks for the info.

Default

Just the wheels, hubs and brake assembly. Then tap it out from the left side.
