You really have to have a good aftermarket swing arm skid plate. Then if you want you can do the belly skid plate.

A arms are different sizes on 400 and 300ex, for the best protection, go with the entire kit, A arms, belly and swing arm. Any one of those can end your ride if damaged, why have a belly plate when you wrap your A arm around a rock, and tear loose a lower arm? Or not have a swing arm plate and have a rock come up and break your chain or crack your sprocket, ride over. Plus the added benefit of being able to "slide" over rocks and logs that would have hung up on an a arm or swing arm, now with it all covered, you can let the weight of the ATV glide you over stuff that would have grabbed your frame and stopped you.

Ricochet offers full kits, most others do too, often you save a little money with the kit versus buying everything seperate, check eBay as well, some nice full kits on there too.

You should definitely go for the thickest aluminum rear swingarm skidplate you can find, it will save your sprocket and brake disc from disaster if you hit something (or land on it) I had one made by PRM that took a hell of a beating and protected swingarm extremely well

You might also consider a plastic skidplate (Maier made one in the mid to late 90's that was very durable) since the 300EX is lightweight by comparison.

Same for A-Arm guards, consider plastic (again Maier) unless you are really going to go mountain goating on your 2wd 300EX

I have used Suzuki (Yoshimura) and Ricochet skids on my various Utility/4WD rides, and they make a very good product

Glad to see that PRM is still in business...I don't know what's up with the two piece construction, the one I bought back in 1994 was a big solid chunk of aluminum

I may have been mistaken about the plastic A-Arm covers, now that I think about it, but this skidplate is pretty durable, lets you slide over a lot of stuff, and is on sale!
