Default Rincon Shifting problem - Intermittent

I have a 2005 Rincon and on occasion it will either not move when in drive or will not shift from 1st gear after starting and a brief warm-up. The oil level is fine & there is no error codes. Recently I shifted in manual and then back to Auto and seemed to work.

Any ideas what the problem could be?

Thanks,
Dennis

Default Transmission O-Rings replacement?

I've done some research and think it maybe low oil pressure in the transmission. On the forums there is talk of defective installation of 8 o-rings. Can anyone identify where these are located on the Rincon or the service manual. I think they located in the Valve body or the oil pump area?

Thanks,

Smile Update - Shift selonoid B Replaced.

I replaced the shift Solenoid B according to the error code. We'll see next spring if it worked. It was not a consistent problem and it would occur if the machine was warmed up or not but would eventually work out of it with use. I learned the bad O-rings in the oil pump where of a problem with the 2003-2004 Rincons so put my faith in the error codes.

I also replaced the cam chain lightener which took on a cold start knock on my last fall ride. Took it apart and the tensioner had a quarter inch play in the stroke length. Changed it out and problem gone.

To add... I have a 2006 Ribicon with a stretched chain. Took it apart and found the tensioner had no more stroke length left and would be the same problem with a new tensioner so I bored out a cap nut to the end of the chain tensioner and it worked great. Cost 89 cents.

Gunk in the valve body can also cause sketchy shifting.

Transmission and engine share the same oil. Using too heavy an oil in cold temps can make shifting sluggish and make a whir sound from the torque converter.

Since the problem occurrs when the machine is fully warm, I don't think that is the issue.

I always use the recommended Honda oil and changed regularly. The machine is always warmed up before every ride. Replaced the shifting solenoid B and all seams well. True test will be next spring when I hit the trails. The cam chain tensioner was replaced. Upper engine knock end of last ride. Worked and all is well. Last upgrade – carb kit. Start way hard and heard from the forum that they are set up lean from the factory.

They are jetted lean from the factory. If it is starting hard in cold weather I'd check the carb heater, and make sure you have enough tension on the enrichment **** that it doesn't vibrate in.

If it is hard to start after it has been sitting, try draining the carb when you know you won't be riding for a few days. Shut the fuel off and run it out.

Fuel goes stale much faster in small quantities when exposed to air, like in the carb float bowl, and ethanol gas goes stale quickly.

If you forgot to run the carb out when parked, drain the float bowl before attempting to start it, to avoid fouling the spark plug.
