Not sure what that S stands for, ES is electric shift, faults on an ES are a whole different ball game to those on a foot change Foreman.

S is just the Standard foot Shift. Usually the E.S thumb shift get all the problems.

Selector problems are quite common, usually on 350s. The clutch cover has to come off and the gearchange mechanism checked for cracks, also the star wheel can come loose, I always Loctite the little screw in the centre when re-fitting it. Both clutches have to come off to get at some parts of the selector mechanism.

No, I stand the quad on it's backside, remove the front footwell plastics and the black ones under the front wheelarches. I don't think you need to remove the prop shaft on a 450, (you do on a 350) but if you do, the diff has to be loosened and moved forwards. The clutch cover can then be removed, watch out for a loose washer. The clutch lifter doesn't cause problems but the other selector levers and pawls can crack or bits break off, some you can see without removing the clutches, and some you can't.

Merryman thank you,You have been very helpful. I used my atv for some chores around the house and it didn't get stuck in 1st but it feels very hard to shift it's not as smooth as it use to be. Does this help in the diagnosing process????

Tried clutch adjustment,Jam nut would not tighten up against the case without the adjuster screw turning in. Does this mean anything,or is it normal????
