Default Gas overflow

We have a 2002 Honda Rancher ES, and one day I filled it up and went inside. When I looked out the window, I saw fuel literally pouring out of the run-off tube on the carb. I dug into it, and when I pulled off the seat, the air box was full of gas. I checked the needle and seat, and it seals off fine, and I didn't notice any holes in the float. Is this just a float adjustment, or does it sound like something else?

Thanks!

Sounds like float needle lost its seal try turn fuel value [petcock] off start engine an run until engine runs out of fuel an goes dead alot of time the engine surges or hunt for fuel trying to keep running an causes an vaccum pressure through carb venture[neck of carb] causing float needle to jam into carb body [seet] an reseal float needle try a few times if dont fix need to replace float needle..Sometimes atv can be hauled an bonuced around causing float to jump up and down in the fuel in the bowl can cause this or water in fuel or trash can get between float needle an its seet an by doing the trick can reseal or suck out any junk or trash that could stop the needle from sealing off.

Also may try to keep engine running at mid throttle to causes an harder surge when runs out of fuel.

Thanks for the reply,
We did check the needle and seat with the carb off the atv, and it seals off fine. Is there anything else that could cause this?

Either you have a faulty needle, little spring inside it sticking, or a shoulder worn on it, or a speck of dirt jammed between needle and seat. Once out, it may never do it again, or more dirt may come down and jam it anytime. You shouldn't get fuel in the airbox anyway, unless you lifted the overflow pipe upwards instead of turning the tap off. Change the oil if fuel has contaminated that too.
