Default Recon 250ES shut off in fifth gear need help getting too neutral

So i got my son a Recon 250ES and he was out riding with a friend, the bottom of the battery box broke and the battery fell out and the quad died. I went out really-installed the battery but can't get it too neutral to start it. Tried manual shifting but it's not working. The 5th gear light stays on but the 1st gear light flashes 3 times. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Unless there has been a very unusual coincidence, the manual shift has to work. It is always quite stiff on an ES as it has to turn the ES gearbox and motor as well as the normal shifting mechanism. The only other possibility is the enormous jolt required to break the battery loose has also broken a magnet off the shift motor. Remove the motor, then turn the emergency lever anti clockwise, while rocking the bike backwards and forwards, you will probably hear when it clicks into 4th, let pressure off and lever will spring back. Repeat for 3rd, 2nd etc. Check if the motor is seized. I did one on Wednesday on a 420 Auto.
