650 Inner Mud flaps to prevent rad clogging
Well, here is the info from trx450. He says his mudflaps eliminate the need for a radiator washer. He also noticed the fan running a lot less with the exhaust wrap. He is also replacing the 02 rad shroud with the 03 one soon.
We still don't have any real pics of the Mike Penland front screens. His screens prevent stuff from flying in the front and getting the rad clogged.

I didn't know you were looking for pictures of Mikes front screens. I could have got them for you. I will try and remember next time I see him. Although they are nothing special. On one machine he had what looked like the stock screen that is right in front of our radiators now. But he had it mounted to the inside of the front bumper, between the bumper and the plastic body work. He also had finer screen, similar to window screen, attached to the stock radiator screen just in front of the radiator.

These aren't radiator screens, they are mud flaps covering the many holes in the inner fender. The mud was being slung forward by the frt. tires onto the back of the radiator. Also mud gets scooped up, and deposited on the frt. of the radiator, past the old style (02) radiator cowl. The 03/04's are made differently, to eliminate the gap between the radiator, and the back edge of the cowl. All I know is that it worked for me these last 2 weekends riding the Wayne Nat'l Forest(Nelsonville, OH). This area also JUST hosted a GNCC race, where Mr. Penland was seen. This area has been EXTREMELY wet/muddy this year. A good test bed for my little project.

Really never considered rusting to be a problem in this particular area. It is only 6" away from the exh. port on the frt. cyl. head. I always run my bikes up to op. temp after washing, anyway. I think that I would concern myself with the muffler rusting out , before the frt. pipe.
