Prairie belt again
Hey all,
I was out riding my 650 all weekend long and it now has about 600 miles on it; not very much I know. So it has 600 miles on it now and while out riding my belt(I think) just now started to squeak on take off or when under load. I tested it by holding the brake and giving a little gas and I hear a squeak coming from what seems to be the belt. I have never adjusted my belt and have the stock spring. My question is, do you think I need a new belt of just need to take a shim out? If I have it apart to shim it, is it how it will need to be for the black spring? If it does need a new belt, should I go for a V or 360 belt instead? Thanks alot everyone. I know this has been done to death and I appreciate all the help I get on here.

Just re-adjust it. Remove the shim(s) till its in spec. Look on Nyroc's Website for help.

gtchief-- Your belt is a little loose. YES, do the black spring while you are in there adjusting the belt deflection. SEE: Nyroc's 650 knowledge base. for instruction. Most likely you will not need shims. If you do, I think that I sent nyroc the part #'s for them, so you can order all four of 'em. Don't run it any more than you have to, with that belt squealing.

Its extremely easy to change the spring when adjusting the belt tension. You need to remove the spring anyways so why not change the spring. Just remember, you will loose some top speed with the black spring. I know for some people speed is everything on their P650. You should already have 1 or 2 shims in your secondary clutch. Nyroc's website explains very well how to add and remove shims to get the belt into the proper tension.

I love my tires. I havent had one problem with them yet. They did great down on the H/M trails with the rocks and they've done great up here with them too. They are also pretty good in the mud too. The only times I've gotten stuck it because I've been high centered, thats my mistake for not going bigger. I'm pretty sure you and NYROC were the reasons I chose them. You guys had so much good to say about them and for the riding I do they are great. Only problem right now is that I got some wood wedged down between the tire and the rim. Think I'd be ok taking a screwdriver in there to clean it out?

You may get the wood out that way, or you might have to deflate the tire, break the bead, remove offending wood, and reinflate. Had to do it many many times!
Next time you get tires, ATR's are THE way to fly! A little expensive, but WELL WORTH the money. I'll give you a supplier name if/when you are ready!
