Hammering bent prairie rims?
#1
I got a flat tire the other day, and found it to be caused by the big dent/bend on the inner side of the rim. Looks like I nailed a stump or something, but the inner bead area of the rim was bent out enough that air was slipping past the bead and flattening the tire. Has anyone sucessfully pounded their rim back into place after a situation like this, do shops perform this service, or should I say screw it and buy a new factory rim. Secondly are the factory p650 rims expensive? Thanks.

Lightman, if you can, take your tire off and pound that rim back into shape the best you can. When you remount the tire, put some heavy grease on the bead. It'll probably look ugly, but I bet it seals right up. I've seen some ugly, bent up rims that still held the bead. It's worth a try rather than just paying for a new rim. You might also try putting some Slime in the tire to get a better seal.

The tire already had slime in it, which clearly has either dried up or just isn't gonna fill that big of a gap. I was a bit disappointed tho to not see any oozing out. Since I dont have the tools or ability to take the tire on and off the bead, I have to figure out what to do.
ANyone know how much a stock p650 rim is?

You should be able to get a used prarie rim cheap, especially from some place like e-bay. Good luck hammering the rim though, I bent an ITP .190 one time and there was no way I could beat that thing out. Stock wheels should be much softer though. Good Luck.

Lightman;
I pounded out my rims before, not very hard.
I'd buy a intertube and put in it if you can't get it pounded out right. only a few $$
