Default Msd on the Prairie ?

I seen where MSD sells an adjustable ignition module for 2 cyl motorcycles. I wonder if it would be possible to
piggy back the factory pickup and wire it into the MSD? Unhook the coils from the fac CDI and use the MSD. The pickup would still be wired to the CDI and the speedometer, eng brake and 4x4 would still work.

Hammerman,

Good question and I have no idea what the answer is. I would think that there is a coil out there that would work though. Here are the specs for the Coils on the '02 P650 and I assume the MSD would need to fall with in these criteria to be an option.

Coil Specs:
3 needle arcing distance 7 mm or more
Primary winding resistance 0.09 ~ 0.13 Ohm
Secondary winding resistance 3.8 ~ 5.8 kOhm
Primary peak voltage 100 V or more

Peace,

I went back to the msd sight and they have coils also. I see you have the Dynatek CDI. It would be alot cheaper
to get the CDI. Does your CDI perform good. 33 deg seemed a little high on the timing at the lower rpm's.
Do you get any valve ping.

No ping, but I'm running 31*. I don't think there will be any problems at 33* and some guys have tested as high as 40* with no ping.

Peace,
