:Congratlations on your purchase, I know you both will be very happy with your machines. Our 97, 400 has 3800 km's and is still on original belt and original tires. It will go approximatley 53 miles a hour, it will get stuck much quicker and easier than the 700. Just a friendly suggestion "DO NOT" let your wife on the 700 unless you really want to drive the 400. My dear wife now calls the 700 hers, I can't afford to buy another one for myself. Just another thing you won't get 3800km's with the tires that come with the 700. I'm presently looking to replace the stock tires already.

Yes, I'm pricing the same tire, I'm going to put the tires that are presently on the 700 on the 400. I wish now I had made the mudlites part of the deal. I have to do something before I wear out the tires on the 700, I presently have 756km's on the tires that came with ATV and the back tires are already showing wear. The better half must be spinning the tires a lot (ha,ha).

Travellers, I don't mean to be rude, but I sure hope you don't have the original belt. It was recalled and could cause your transmission to stop suddenly and do a foreward flip with the 400 on top of you (only if it is a 4x4).

No deaths have been reported so far as I have read on this belt, but there have been some injuries.

I took my belt to the dealer and they swapped me without even looking at my 99 P400. The belt had 800 miles and already showed splits forming. The newer belts don't do this.

The good belts that are not dangerous have ribs on the top and bottom. The bad belts have ribs only on the bottom (toward pulley).

Recall Link

RenegadeRider, the P400 is extremely reliable. There isn't much to do for it in the area of performance parts. It does take Prairie 650 wheels, which allow you to get a better size of tire for the rear. No adapters are required, and the spacing is right on. There are clutch springs available for it that will allow it to turn bigger tires. There are no parts in common with the 650, except for the wheels, nuts and bolts, and possibly the choke lever. The pulleys, belt and springs are very much different.

I never got a recall, so I suspect I have the same belt. I know last fall I took machine in for some repairs as clutch wasn't working properly. It was extremely dirty, literally plugged with muck and crap as hose in front had become discontented while hunting trip. I sure will check with dealer and see if he changed belt, if he did doesn't show on bill. I did get a recall lasr fall for front end bolts on steering which dealer fixed. Thanks, NYROC will be checking with dealer on Monday. Taking a tour across Newfoundland this summer, which is 600 miles don't need a belt problem or a trip to the hospital.

Thanks for the heads up NYROC. The 400 was purchased and traded back at the same dealer. The dealer gave us the history and said 2 recalls were done on it. One being the belt and I can't remember the other one.

Travelers, unless you buy new wheels and tires for your 700- your tire swap will not work for the rears.

The P-400 uses the older 10" rear wheel and the P-700 uses the 12" wheel.

The wheel will mount right up, I have P-400 wheels on my P-650!
My dad has my P-650 wheels on my old P-400. I has 26" mudrunners on my P-400 and he didn't care for them so we just swapped out wheels (for now).
