Default Question removing carbs

I'll be doing some jetting as soon as my Dynojet kit gets here. The service manual says to drain the cooling system prior to removing the carbs. I've never had to do this before with any of my bikes or sleds and was wondering if there is a way to re-jet without draining the coolant. I would appreciate any other tips from anyone who has done their carbs that will make the job easier.

Default Question removing carbs

You dont have to take the carbs off or drain the water for this mod
the mains is the easy part
the slides is a different story......little more work involved

Default Question removing carbs

I'm changing needles also. Won't I have to remove carbs to do this?

Default Question removing carbs

You do not have to drain the coolant to remove the carbs. I have already bypassed those lines because I live in Arizona and don't need the system. It was pretty easy to do, and I hardly lost any coolant. Just plug the lines going to the carb when you take them off, but like I said you won't lose that much. I have an '03 also and have had my carbs out alot, nothing to it, just take your time! The needles are cake to remove, just four screws on the side of the carb, where the black plastic cover is. there is a spring in there so keep an eye on it as the cover comes off, and just have patience when you are trying too convince it to go back together! That spring can be uncoopertive!

I forgot to mention, it would be a good idea to replace the bowl screws while you have the carbs out with some allen heads. After doing this you can remove the bowls alot easier with the carbs still installed.
