ATV ACTION article

I think the thing that kills me is that the article picked the 660 single cylinder single overhead cam pushrod engine over the 700cc V twin dual overhead cam engine as the "best engine of the group". And the Polaris 500 was second according the them. WHAT????
Keep in mind that I own both, so I am very much unbiased. I happen to love the wide power band of the Raptor engine and think it is a great engine for it's intended purpose. But even Ray Charles can see that the V Force engine is far superior. As far a stock horsepower, the Raptor puts out about 40 hp at the crank and the V Force puts out 49.3 according to my service manual. The fact that the hp at the wheels is about the same is due to the CVT versus the 5 speed. But this has nothing to do with the enginer itself.
Not even a Raptor fan like myself can deny this obvious fact. Think of it like this. If you put a Raptor motor on a V Force frame coupled to a CVT and put the V Twin on a Raptor with a 5 speed, what do you think the outcome would be? The Raptor motor would struggle with the CVT and weight of the V, but the V Twin would create an almost unrideable rocket out of the Raptor frame.

Hey TellicoGriz,
Why don't you grow up. Nobody said anything about the 450. We know it is fast. I also know that it has a little pissant frame that feels as small as a Blaster and hurts my back to ride. You also have to pull the little thing when you want to go backwards, so it is not the end all be all. I could have bought a 450 but chose the Raptor and V Force instead. Why? Because the Raptor and V Force are better all around trail quads and are more comfortable to ride all day long than the little 3/4 sized 450.
Bottom line is this. Noone asked your opinion so go to the Yamaha forum and you and the other 450 owners can stroke each other's ego's about how fast your little mini quad is. As for me, I don't give a rats butt. This post was directed to other V Force owners who disagree with the overly negative portrayal of our machines. We all know that the V Force is not the fastest or best handling quad. I don't think any of us bought one thinking this. But it sucks to have these magazines portraying our machines as junk just because it is an auto and is not the fastest.
Nuff said.

Ill have to back you up on that one HomeDawg. The tranny and shaft drive cause a much higher drivetrain loss than a traditional manual clutch mechanical geared transmission. The v has the most torque. Its an excellent dune and trail cruising machine. Just hit the gas and go.

Tellico, your yfz is great, get over it. We all have. Its comparing apples and oranges. A better comparo would be the v and ds, or the yfz and trx 450r. the v and yfz were not designed for the same thing, and in no way resemble each other in design or form.
