Prairie 700 V-Twin

I want to buy the Prairie 700 within the next week or two. Some guy I was talking to said the 650 is a better machine and that the 700 stalls constantly and to wait for next years model to come out. I find this hard to believe, sine I haven't heard this anywhere else. I would love to hear from some 700 owners. Also what is a good price for the 700. So far I've gotten one dealer down to $6,400 and another to $6450. Is there any talk of what the upgrades will be on the 2005 model? Thanks!

Not sure what the mean when they stall or whatever mine runs like a stripped A$$ ape, getting ready to be raped by a gorilla with well you get the idea. Seriously though mine hasn't had any problems especially like the ones you described. It will run circles around my 650 also.

The 700 is cold blooded. It takes more time to warm up than the 650 did. That said, the 700 is as good or better in every way than the 650. The belt and belt wear is better and the power is significant. It may be worth the wait for you till next year. However, none of these machine possibilities have been recognized by kawisaki officially. Regardless, the 700 will still be availible as a leftover model for perhaps a lower price. I got mine for under 6400 otd, so I am not sure how much lower prices can drop. I personally do not like the idea of EFI on a utility atv. I do not ride in drastically different altitudes on a regular basis. I also do not think this system would be very sturdy in the mud, especially if the atv is submerged as I have done on occasion, usually on accident. Not to mention the sheer cost of maintaining and replacing these systems once the warranty is over. Carbs are cheaper, simpler, and easy to deal with. The added convenience of EFI has not really been proven in the atv world as only 1 sport atv manufacturer has implemented it, and they are out of business. Polaris now has an EFI 700 but it has not been out long enough to prove itself for its price premium.

We paid 6700 on out camo 700 when they first came out then bought a 3 or 4 year warranty off ebay 325 dollars. We trade them in every couple years so this covers our butts. I would have to take the total opposite approach to the efi than you. I ride from sea level up over 12000 feet several times a year. If you figure my time or dealer time an hour to adjust it correctley several times a year then the cost is non existent. My opinion. I do like the idea of plugging a computer in to find out what is wrong makes them must faster generally on trouble shooting.(Generally). I don't think you will find any flaws in system through abuse like water or dust. These systems can be made very well. I guess it depends on the rider and terrain wether to wait or not.[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]

I bought a 650 and wish I would of waited on the 700. The 700 is a better machine. More torque and
better belt system. The 700 will out run the 650 with all ease.

My brother has a 2002 P650... and I've ridden it many times... I bought the 2004 P700 about 6 months ago..and I can tell you.. the P700 is hands down better in every way then the P650!! Liek other have mentioned... it's grunt torq is very noticable, belt life is better, topend is better, handling is better, ... yes, it's a tad cold blooded, but just choke it for a min or so..and she's fine and dandy! I rode mine all winter, and used it to plow with as well, and I have never had a single problem !!
As for the Suzuki 750 coming out..it's a single cylinder 750... NO THANKS!!! I'd NEVER give up the smooth raw power of my v-twin!!!!

My p700 runs great. I've never had stalling problems or would I call it cold blooded. I did have problems with the dealer set up with alltitude. As far as waiting for the 05s this is a question of if you might want IRS and/or EFI. In Colorado I ride from 5000 feet all the way up to 13000+ so EFI would be nice but I would not buy the first version of any new electronic thing. One of the reasons that I bought the Prairie as I didn't want IRS for many reasons - mostly being the instability and body roll. I came close to buying a rincon since I liked its IRS set up but it had crappy brakes and no low range.
