I installed my cdi and tryed it. May be just a little faster to get from 63 to 66. After 64 it starts to cut out slightly or miss or something, then slightly backfires when letting off. Tryed stock again, didn't notice any gain with cdi until maybe reaching 65 faster. Left dg3 hooked up and 4* key in for test. Actually bike run 3 mph faster than ever did on same gravel road . Now tops out 66 without cdi and same with. Maybe jetting needs to be more or just too much timing. Don't know. Maybe dyna isn't working? Guess I should have disconnected dg3, but didn't want to until I saw cdi would work with key.

 

Sounds lean at upper RPM. Try closing the choke a little when it does that.

 

Would the extra timing make it lean?

 

It's possible, although I didn't have to rejet after I put my Dyna on.

 

I tried 2 sizes leaner without dyna and run good but jetted up anyway and gained 2mph. Now it studders with dyna at 64 but still will get to 66

I just received my Dyna CDI also, same batch as yours. Mine also starts surging and cutting out at about 62 (GPS speed, speedo says 66). I just thought it was hitting the rev limiter because it will rev to a certain point, then cut out, then rev to that point again, then cut out... Maybe a bad batch? Low end performance is on par with the DG3, but I notice no difference up top, except for maybe a 1mph gain and the cutting out. I am not happy at all with it...

 

Crypie, Sounds like mine is like yours. But without cdi it will go just as fast without cutting out. Hope there is something wrong with it or I wasted money to make it worse. As far as the key with it, there is alot of other people running it with no problem.

What primary spring (front pulley)are you running?
Might try swapping to different primary an see if same thing. I was under the impression the DYNA was suppose to raise the REV Limiter?

Would be interesting to note what engine RPM your ATV is cutting out. I'm thinking about ordering a Tachometer to see what RPMs my ATV is actually turning.

Is your ATV pulling hard to Cut-out?

I just sent my DYNA back for testing. It started to have Kickback but was not cutting out at 66MPH. Hope I don't get it back and it starts cutting out.

When did you get the CDI? Is it from the first batches that had the kickback problem or is it a newer one?

I think there is something wrong with them. If you remember on the other Dyna thread, the third time I called them to check on shipping I was told there was a problem with an audit and that they didn't have them. My guess is they are all bad and they sent them out anyway. I will be sending mine back. I don't plan on waiting 2 months for a good batch either, I will just stick with the DG3.

I purchase my Dyna FS in Apr 04. My unit maybe has less than 5 hours on it when it started to kickback. I don't ride that often and mostly use my prairrie for scouting and hunting. If DYNA acts up again after I receive it back this time, I'll Just go with Flywheel Key and Module. I still have a Highlifter Module & 6* key new in the box to try.

My old DYNA would do rolling wheelie on asphalt or grass at 5 mph Hi or Low range but midrange to top end seemed sluggish. I'm going to recheck my belt deflection & adjust if necessary plus keep playing with the Jets (running 150/152 mains now) to see what runs best . Im getting a small studder at 3/4 throttle I'm trying to get out. Other than that, once pass the studder point she rips. Wish I had a 700 in my neck of the woods to campare it to. My buddie runs a Honda Rincon 650 & its no contest from standing start. If he's out front on the trail and try to leave me, I can run him down & pass at will.
