p 650 belt ?
My 02 p650 belt started squeaking this weekend on take off I have 900 miles on it, 27in 589's and mostly used for hunting , towing and trail riding. I took it off today and it measured with a string on the outside at a little over 34 in, and on the side you can see the strings in the belt showing do I need to replace it, Shim it or what.

you'll need to measure the width, not the O.D., to see if it's in spec... if it's too narrow, I'd highly recommend replacing it with the 700 belt... it's a much better belt, & only slightly wider ( may require an additional shim or two )... you may find the 700 belt, when properly adjusted to be the last belt you'll ever n4eed, if you got 900 miles on the original ... the price of belts has come down greatly, since aftermarket belts have come on the market, but I'd still recommend you purchase an O.E. belt, unless you dealer is still living in the dark ages, & charging more than $100.00 for an O.E. belt...

newbeatle, I called my dealer today about the belt for my 700. He told me he would give it to me for 10% off. When I asked him what the cost was, he said $150 plus tax, canadian. I almost laughed in his ear. After I told him to have a nice day, I called my auto parts store and asked if they could get the Dayco belt and how much, they said they could. He checked on the belt and can get it for me for $42 plus $15 shipping from Montreal to Sydney overnight.

Crawdaddy I would get a new belt and start from scratch.I went thru the same thing.Mine had the 1.4 shim in it from the factory.Get a .6,.8,1.0 shims and have them. With the 650 belt I started out with the 1.0 shim and just went to the .6 shim after 700 miles.I am on pace for about 1500 miles on a belt. The next time I will get a 700 belt.
Personally I would get the oe belt but thats me...

The Dayco's won't hold up like the O.E. belts, ( or at least they haven't been for most posting forum members... the rubber compound seems to be softer, which is more forgiving on sheeve wear, & better grabs the sheeves, but the initial quality seems to vary greatly, as some people have gotten as little as 100 miles on them )...but if your dealership has not forwarded the lower prices on to you, then the Dayco is a great alternitive... I used to pay around $150.00 US for O.E. 650 belts... the 700 belt I just bought from the same dealership, cost me around $60.00

Does anyone have the part number for the OEM belt. both part numbers (650&700) if you have them. I want to look around the net for a good deal on them but I have not found a part number on the KAWI site, SUKI site or in my service manual. I will post my findings if some one has the part numbers.

I do not have enough miles on he new Dayco belt to give a review. Being a new belt, the initial pick up is good, very responsive. But I was coming off the stock belt that was too loose and worn. After doing some snow plowing this upcoming winter, I should be able to give a better review of how the belt has held up. I went with Nyrocs suggestion on this belt. See his site for more info.

This was taken from Nyroc's site:
Some people have been using 700 and 360 belts on the 650 already, and they have been working well. The 700 belt reportedly adds approx 4-5mph to the top speed. The 360 belt appears to have no affect on top speed. Tracy's World of Cycle 1-800-860-0686 may have them for $64 or so.
