Got my new(to me) Prairie 650 questions???
It has 76 miles on it, 27" Dirt Devil tires, progresive springs, 1.5" lift, and trunk.
1. The speedometer indicates 55 on a 1/8 mile run, what do you think the actual speed is with the oversized tires?
2. Even in 2x4 mode the front end makes kind of a whine above 30mph, sounds like the diff lock would be engaged, is this normal?
3. The guy gave me a new black EPI secondary spring that he said someone told him should be installed, should I install it?
I appreciate the help guys.
Thanks
Don

1: probally over 60 mph but hard to tell ,only gps will be accurate
2:whine is normal with kawasaki, transmission is whining most likely, can check if front end is engaged by lifting front and turning wheel.both will be solidly locked if engaged.still shouldn,t whine from that because both wheels are still turnong when going down the road.
3:YES!It is a must with larger tires to save your drive belt.

Got my new(to me) Prairie 650 questions???
Thanks guy's, he gave me the maintenance manual as well and it looks pretty easy to change the secondary spring.
Is that tool neccesary to kepp the clutch from turning to remove the clutch nut? I went to NYROC's web site and the spring compression tool looks pretty easy to make.
My last utility quad was an 03 Foreman 450ES, what a difference. this thing really gets up and moves.

The Clutch tool on Nyrocs Web is for removing the Secondary Clutch Spring.
The Primary Clutch tool that you order from Ritter cycle (special tool thats a threaded bolt that fits in the primary clutch after you remove the stock bolt & used to quickly remove the primary clutch assembly) cost approximately $35-40.

Sammy, It is better if you can use your buddy to hold the clutch itself while you use an air gun and socket, if you use a socket extension to hold the clutch against the frame of the 650 you will get a vibration and not get the full tourque from the air gun. By doing it this way the with the torque gun you lessen the chance of messing up the threads and nut. If you don't have a buddy handy or a torque gun, you'll have to brace the clutch with the extension and use a break bar on your ratchet. Good Luck. You will be happy with the black spring, it will prolong the life of your belt.

They all whine, It will grow on you. If you think it runs good now if you ever get a chance try a set of light 25s on stock wheels, its night and day. I would install the black spring but at the same time I would get a primary spring for it as well. You wont have to pull the primary to change the spring.

you could try the dalton orange/blue spring if you like, i havent. but you will get a abrupt take off. more rpm to get the prairie moving.
i installed the 700p drive spring, which works pretty good on the 650's. no abrupt take off's.
i dont know what you are after in the clutching, thats why i told you about the take off's.
