Default Need Some Expert Carb/Timing Advice

Here's the prob--when running hard on the trails, I let off the gas to make a hard turn and when I slam the throttle home, I get a miss!! This is very consistent and happens every time--I thought maybe I was too rich with my needle shims--I have three shims installed and removed them one at a time with no change other than I could notice midrange power loss with every shim I removed--I then took the air cleaner off and cleaned and re oiled it with no improvement --I went riding last weekend and the only thing i did different was to add mid range gas instead of regular--a couple of weeks ago though, I re-installed my advanced timing key after modifying it and taking even more metal off to advance the timing even more--I do not get any valve ping but I dont like the hesitation between idle and wot. Does anyone think I have too much timing Advance?? Does this sound like a carb problem?? Any comments would be appreciated--thanx

the pilot jet runs the quad at idle and the needle picks up when you move the throttle. the hesatation is actually between the pilot and needle which could mean the needle is adding to much gas or the pilot doesn't allow enough gas betwwen the pilot and needle. you tryed the shim removal so go up on your pilot and see if that helps. also make sure your air screws are adjusted properly.
as far as timing go until she pings and then back her up a bit.

good advice schl48a---I got s little different response from the other forum I frequent and I am in the process of trying it right now---Seems I drilled the vacuum hole at the bottom of my slide awhile back in order to allow more vacuum to open the slide faster---I forgot I did this but was reminded---It almost seems like the slide is opening to quick and causing an over rich at punch down??? I pulled my slide out tonight and filled the bottom vacuum hole that I drilled with JB Bond---I will wait until tomorrow and re-drill the hole considerably smaller and drop a line on this forum and let you know if that worked

appreciate your input---

Default Need Some Expert Carb/Timing Advice

So kinda on the same lines....
Hey I recently put a Muzzy exhaust on my V and after I got done jetting it
I can hear it sucking and missing Big time! when it idles also it pops and back fires when I get on it and let off
so I know not jetted right
the idle should be in the front jet right?
I recently went up 2 sizes in the front to get more fuel since I thought I was running to lean but it still pops and back fires
or would this be the needles?
I'm at 5k feet but ride up in the 9k as well
please help
Bud

BUDWSR---I aint no carb expert but you mention the "Idle is in the front jet?????? The idle jet or pilot jet is completely seperate jet from your mains---It also sounds like you just rejetted one carb????? I would think you would have to rejet both carbs at the same time??? I dont know alot about V setups but I am sure there are alot of knowledgeable people on this forum that do--Sorry I couldnt help

Ok guys---redrilled the slide vacuum hole 2 drill bit sizes smaller than it was and my bog is totally gone and my engine has never run better---dont think i'm gonna mess with it---just picked my kid up from the bus stop and i can still feel a performance increase--very happy with it again
also---checked my fuses under the seat because my 4 wheel drive light flashes some time--the fuse next to the battery tray, 10 amp was broke---not burned out but the glass was loose from the metal end--replaced it and the light has not come on---also checked all my connections and everything was tight and clean---
thanx for the help---keep up the good posts

no I have been changing both the front and rear

I bumped it up to 130f 134 rear but it still seems to lean

anyone else have the similar set up?

stck airbox, K&N filter, Muzzy at 5k ft

Jetting sucks......no pun intended

if it pops and misses at idle you might try the next size up on the pilot jets(one in each carb). otherwise keep going up on the jets until tou get a little black smoke out the exhaust at wot, then go down a size smaller. also make sure you don't have a vacum? leak around the boots of the carbs and make sure all the hoses to the carbs are on.
