I have about 2000 kms on my BF650 and was wondering if it is time for a new belt. I don't feel any difference in performance yet, but I think I will keep on standby just in case. Which is the best belt to buy. Are there alot of different brands on the market. I can get a dayco for about 38$ u.s form Ebay, but I heard to stay away from that particular brand. Any info much appreciated. Thank, Rendell

I would stick with OEM belt. The aftermarket belt may last longer than OEM. I don't know. If it does, at the expense of what? Something's gotta give... probably more wear on the converter sheave surface. Think about it. There's lots of friction and slipping going on in the CVT whenever the sheaves squeeze on the belt. Something has to wear out. It's like using metallic brake pads on disc rotors that are not designed for, and one's wondering why the rotors are all warped or became too thin too fast. I'd rather want to see wear on the $68 belt than on the $600 converter sheaves. But it is your money on your bike. So, you make the decision.

kawasaki part # 59011-0003 (i think) from ron ayers, bikebandit or your local dealer. do a search on dayco belt in pretty much any Kawi forum and see why. if the new Dayco belt holds up, sooner or later they will get their reputation back, but for now the lousy reviews out there are hard to go against.

Use the OEM Kawasaki belt.
I went throught two dayco belts in 100 miles, changed nothing on the clutches and put a OEM belt on and it still on after another 3000 miles. All belts were shimed to specs.
I had the early 650 Prairie '02 model and went through 4 belts in 4000 miles.
Dayco belts work fine on my Polaris 400 Scramblers.

i just changed my belt and i found out i dident realy need one but i bought the new one befor i checked the one on my quad.
so now i have a good spare belt.
i know a few of people who have changed there belts and went to another brand and in the end they go back to the factory belt.
im happy with the factory belt and like another guy said the few extra dollers spent on the factory belt is worth it in the long run.
stick with the stock belt its the best one for durabillaty.
i have over 4000 kilometers (2500miles) on my kawi and the old belt is still good for another 1600 klicks(1000 miles) at least.
