Default BRUTE FORCE 650 4X4 PROBLEM NEED HELP THANKS

HELLO,

I JUST PURCHASED A 2007 BRUTE FORCE 650 SRA ABOUT A FEW WEEKS BACK THE BIKE IS ALMOST NEW AND THE 4X4 DOESNT WANT TO ENGAGE. I'VE DRIVEN IT THE DISTANCE AND BETWEEN THE SPEEDS IT ENGAGES AND NOTHING. I DID A FEW TEST IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER BUT I'M GETTING THE RIGHT READINGS AS PER THE MANUAL. I DONT NO WHAT ELSE TO DO. I'VE READ THAT THE ACTUATORS CAN BE THE PROBLEM BUT IM GETTING THE RIGHT READING. THEY ALSO SAID IT COULD BE THE PIN THAT USUALLY GETS STUCK BUT I PULLED IT OUT AND DIDNT SEE WHAT THEY CALL THE PIN. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. I HAVENT CHECKED THE FORWARD/REVERSE SWITCH BECAUSE I CANT FIND IT MAYBE BECAUSE I'M USING A 2007 750/750I MANUAL, NOT SURE IF IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE. ANY HELP OR TROUBLE SHOOTING TIPS WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

P.S. I WAS GOING TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER BUT $90HR JUST TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AND IT COULD TAKE A 1,2,3 HRS ETC. NAH I'LL TRY TO DO IT MYSELF IF I CAN.

It engages and nothing??? Can you clarify this?
Anything flashing on the meter?
What reading are you referring to in the manual where?
The pin on the actuator gets broken off sometimes, but more often it is the small 1/2" aluminum block that gets round off.
The 750 manual is OK to use for troubleshooting this problem.
The high labor charge is one issue but the quality of service is another...

Default BRUTE FORCE 650 4X4 PROBLEM NEED HELP THANKS

Hello,

No the 4x4 doesn't engage at all, nothing is flashing on the dash. The trouble shooting readings to check to see if anything is wrong with the actuator, sensors, relays etc. (ohms and voltage test's). the aluminum block looked good when i took the actuator off. but i didnt see the so called pin. well i dont know how the pin would look so that doesnt help.

If nothing is flashing on the dash meter and if the 4wd is not engaging, more than likely it is the blown igniter. Controller receives the 12V signal from the igniter for 4WD engagement, and it sends 12V to the 4wd actuator via Wht/Yel wire when you flip the 2/4WD toggle switch to 4WD position. It also needs voltage input from speedo sensor (Pink wire) and the Forward/Reverse sensor (Wht/Blk wire). If any of those voltage is missing, it would not engage. You sure you checked all the necessary voltages coming in and out of Controller?

i tried a few but not sure if they were the necesary ones to determine the problem for the 4wd functions. what voltage tests do you recommend i do? i believe i checked all the ones that you listed except for the forward/reverse switch which i couldnt find. do you check it from the lead or the controller unit? i do know that the actuator is getting correct power and the controller unit is getting the 12v.

mine was doing this also and all it was was the switch on the handle bars was corroded and not having good contact. if you have a small tear in the rubber boot it can cause this. you can take it apart and clean it with a wire brush and usually get it goin. i replaced mine (new boot) and havent had a problem since.

Thanks i'll try that today. it must be something simple (i hope) because everything is working fine and the guy that had it prior to me said the 4x4 never gave him a problem.
