Default 2001 Prairie 300 Leaking Gas

I took my 850 out today to bomb around in the snow before it's gone. Had a blast for about an hour. (Got cold!) Parked it in the garage. My wife gets home 2 hours later and says she smells gas in the garage... Natural gas or gasoline?? gasoline. Now I'm pissed, thinking I did something to my XP and caused a gas leak. Look all over it, and no gas leak. Check the snowblower, no gas leak.. gas cans, weedwacker, nothing. Look under the Kawi with a flashlight and see a drip fall. Look closer and there's what appears to be a vent line above the swingarm mount dripping gasoline about 5 drips a minute. It is too late to get into now, but I closed the fuel supply from the tank. Is there a carb vent that could leak on a quad that hasn't moved in 5 months?? I was going to rebuild the carb before the riding season anyways, so maybe I'll find out what it is then. This little ride has been about bulletproof for 9 years. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thats the over flow tube, needle an seat are not closing, the needle that is attach to the float, after sitting for awhile gas gums up the carb and wont allow it to close, pull the bowl off and clean it

Good thing I'm going to clean and rebuild the carb soon, huh? Guess it'll be sooner rather than later. My garage still stinks of gasoline.

try shutting off the fuel supply on the bottom of the tank that should stop the leaking

I'm experiencing the same problem with my 2001 Lakota 300 and one of the Warrior 350s (which just had its carb rebuilt...). The leaking only happens when the engine is off, so I just shut the fuel valve off when it's not running. I don't mind working around it this way, but is it harmful while the engine is running?

I had shut off the fuel supply the day I found it leaking and it did stop. It's a moot point now as I pulled the carb yesterday. Monday I'm picking up the rebuild kit from the local Kawasaki dealership. We'll see how it goes.

After you replace the needle and seat , turn the gas off when not in use and the new one will last longer.

If there is Ethanol in your gas and you have a rubber tip on the float valve there is a good chance the Ethanol is eating up the rubber. That is what happened to mine.
