Jack the front end up and rock the wheels vertically, any play can be felt and checked for where it is loose at, may be ball joints, A arm bushes, or wheel bearings. lift up and down vertically to check for vertical play in ball joints and shock bushes. Hold the handlebar and rock the wheel horizontally to check for play in track rod ends and steering column bearings.

Thanks, I will do that this morning. Hopefully, it won't hide from me.

I know that in trucks, it can be tricky to find loose joints, as the springs/shocks can apply so much pressure that they can't easily be felt with the tires off the ground. With these soft shocks, it probably won't' be so hard.

Well, that was easy. The nut at the top of the right shock is a little loose, with about 2-3mm (1/16-1/8") of play. Even with just my hand, it makes a sound. That is definitely what I was hearing.

Thanks, Merryman!

Unfortunately, it looks like I have to remove the front rack and plastics to access that nut. If I had the right size wrench, I might be able to access if I take a wheel off, but access is tight. I might try it, if I can find something that will fit it. Otherwise, off with the plastics.
