2001 kawi 650 prarie belt slippage
#1
I recently went to Arizona to ride with my Dad in the Hope mountain's, he said that he had already had the belt replaced just before my arrival, we had'nt even put 100 mile's on this thing and it started squealling slightly again with a load. After talking to a couple of other 01 prarie owner's we found that they were having the same problem but un able to pin point the actual cause of the "defect". I'd like to know how many other owner's are having this problem and what information they have been able to get on the acual cause. thank'sTextnullTextnullnull[E=2001 kawasaki 650 prarie belt slippage]ok_marc_ok@yahoo.com [E=2001 kawasaki 650 prarie belt slippage]ok_marc_ok@yahoo.com

Not sure if this helps, but I had to take mine in 3 times for them to get the deflection right.. Eveytime I gott it back it either squeeked louder or after a few miles it would start again. They started to tell me "they all do it and its normal" So I said I would not be back and was finding another dealer. Well they said to leave it for a week and guess what, its fine now. 700 miles. so far...

I appreciate you sending me your "experenced" report I have a couple more question's.
Did the dealer not replace the belt or comment on it's condition? You see this is my Dad's 2002 atv and the dealer only replaced the belt which stopped it for a short time but did not mention any other replaced part's or adjustment's mad.
Also in hope Arizona where he does his most challenging riding there are believe it or not, three other 2002 650's they are beginning to have the same noise, and this is in the same RV camp where my Dad is!
I hope your atv's squak is gone for good and thank's for the come back.TextTextText

Hey Grizzjeeper
How do you like your dirtdevils? I ride mostly in the desert, no mud bogging. How is the ground clearance and did you loose any power? Thanks for the help

Over the weekend I heard that the supplier of the belts had the wrong angle on the sides of the belt (where it makes contact with the pullies) and that they were working on getting them changed. I would expect a recall on this IF IT IS TRUE.

I beleive if they just changed the belt the problem will go away temporarily. if the deflection is off, as soon as that new belt breaks in you will hear that squak again. Thats what i have been told anyway. The dealer had to make a larger shim for mine to get it to stop.

Dirt devils ride like glass, very smooth. No noticable powerloss. very flat better sliders than stockers. Lost gound clearance!!! 26 inch tires measure 24.5!!!
