Based on what I have read in the posts, the Recon is a faster and sportier ride. I like my Bayou for it's soft ride but then I'm an older (42) guy too.

Dogs no, cats maybe. Bayou 220 is a nice ride when ridden in its intended range. No big air, powerslides, nose wheelies. Gets you from point a to point b, with a little fun thrown in. Built tough and simple. My wifes does 44.5 mph. I have no idea if that is fast or slow for a 220. The recon is not vastly superior to a 220.

I have a 650 prairie and looked at bayou but decided to get the wfies a Honda recon
I like the recon as much as I love my 650. The recon just seemed like it is built better . I check out Honda forum and only heard good thinks about the recon. I guess it does mid 40s with my 200lbs on it .It handle very easy but can use better tires like most stock tires.

The Bayou is just a tiny bit faster than the Recon. I have both,& every time my friends and I stage a drag race, the Recon gets out on the Bayou but then the Bayou reels it in. It might be just a factor of weight, traction and driving skills. Both quads are bone stock 2001 models {for now}. But my old '86 Q-sport 230 Suzuki kicks both their butts.

Remember they will probably close out the Bayou 220's when the Bayou 250's come out. Might be the right time to buy if thats what you're in the market for.

my friend has a bayou 220, he is 14 and he is an increible driver, he should race, because he can keep the bayou with me even when im trying to loose him on trails, its not slow at all, and its narrowness and semi-independant rear get him through anything that doesnt include mud, snow, or anything thats slippery, no impressive power, but he drives it to the max, and he has to problems but a dying battery, and it has been rolled down a hill
(my bad ) its a 1995, and its built better than any honda i have ever seen, its even better now with his dirt devils on the back and maxis all traks on the front, i think the ride is very hard, and he hates the suspension, its a very tiny machine, i guess thats what makes it so munervable, he is a few inches taller than me (5' 8) and he is fine on it, but im cramped, i guess he is to, the gearing is really good, and if you try, which i've been teaching him, you can wheelie pretty good for a tiny engine util. he jumps it pretty good to, the thing is so light it just floats, it gets stuck easy if you dont know what your doing, ive had to pull him out of ruts that my 2x2 Rokon All terain cycle went through, and you can get stuck on log steps, anything where the back tires can spin, you will get stuck if you dont avoid, it is a very very very very capable machine, not o be underestimated, the 250 could only be better, ph yeah he can go flying down a dirt road, and turn and hit the rear brake and do a 360, its hot!, but dont do that unless you know how, cause you could get hurt, i would chose the 220 over the recon, or even better, the bayou 250
