Hola, my '03 650 was having starting/stalling problems, but had good power when it was running. I dropped it off at the shop, who said they thought it was running rich. So they re-jetted and adjusted the idle speed. Apparently it started fine at the shop so they called me to pick it up. I got it home and it started fine, as it often did when sitting in my driveway. I parked it for about 1 1/2 weeks before I got a chance for a test run last night.

Anyway, it took about 10 minutes to get it started to get it loaded into the truck. B4 it sometimes would not start w/o using 1/2 throttle. It would never start if the choke was used. This time it just would not start. I ended up having to use part choke and 1/2 throttle to get it to fire. Interesting combination, but eventually it started and stayed running.

I got it up to the hills, and again had difficulty starting it. It wasn't as difficult but it took some time. It did not stall during the 1 1/2 hours I played with it, so that was nice. But it had noticeably less power. I had to use alot more throttle to keep at my trail speeds (about 40mph in the level spots) and my top speed dropped from 62mph to about 57.

Apparantly the main thing the repairs did was make me slower and less powerfull. All in all I liked it better when I just had to use throttle to start it and it sometimes stalled. The way it is now if my battery dies up in the hills I'll probably give myself a stroke trying to pull start it. None of the other atv's I've ridden or started at the dealerships have had this problem. What's more frustrating is I bought it new 1 month ago and I'm not sure if I can trust it.

I'm going elk hunting in about 2 weeks. Ideas?

Take it back and make that sorry bunch fix it. If the machine ran well in the past once you got it to start, the jetting was good and the tech shouldn't have changed it. I believe the choke/enrichener system is the root cause of all the problems.

Chances are your choke to make sure you will have to get at your carbs. Remove carbs from their resting spot turn upside down make sure you cover the carb intake with a rag. Take off the carb cables pull the plungers away from the carbs. Depress the spring from the plunger take off the needle from the cable. Take off spring expand the spring so it is now longer by at least a 1/2in make sure they both the same length and reinstall. If this helps your starting and running problem then you will now for sure it is your choke. I have numbers for the replacement springs that are stronger and longer than original and will eliminate the problem. Kawi has changed the numbers for the cable itself but I beleive they are the same cables as the P650. Try the spring by expanding it and if this helps then let me now and I will send the numbers for you.The springs are off a KLM motocross bike they will fit and your dealer will have them in stock. Have fun.

Two98xjs, Yep had the Green Machine apart 30 times trying different combos of jets for 2200ft above sea level up to 9000ft. My choke gave me greef right from the start took it back to dealer twice and no change. I posted my problems and I think Montess and Nyroc came to the rescue. I also found another dealer that was willing to humer an old guy and go through the parts book page by page to find a solution. I believe Nyroc also has the numbers you can use they help immensly the screws are the toughest thing to over come. Have fun.

Excuse me for the delay. Here's the numbers for the springs on the carbs they are from a KLM dirt bike and work excellent. They are longer and thicker since installing I have had no more problems.
