why does my mojave run with only the choke on?

I just went and started it with the choke on and let it warm up and turned the choke off and it died and after it took another like 300 kicks to watch it die again compression??? carb??? spark??? choke????

It sounds lean. Either the jetting is to low for the air temp. or there is trash or gum/fuel varnish partially blocking your
idle jet. Just my $.02 Try some starting fluid(ether) from the local parts store. This stuff definately will start a hard cranker in cold temps. Put some fuel injector/carb cleaner in gas tank. It may have some water in the carb bowl that needs draining, or it may be frozen in the bowl.

If your building isn't heated and it was running well when it was put away, it's now froze up. Put some heat to the carb and gas line anti-freeze in the tank.

heres what i do to start my mojave when its cold. kick it once with the choke on, then kick it twice with the choke all the way off, push the throttle to get a little gas flowing while kicking, then turn the choke back on and it starts within 3 kicks. also it's a lot harder to get started if its been sitting in the cold for more than 2 days. but i used this method yesterday before i went out and it was 19 degrees.

If you use starter fluid, only use tiny little squirts in the carb while you are cranking it. A heavy spray cleans the oil off the cylinder walls and could cause scuffs on the cylinder walls and piston.
