I have had the standard troubles with the black plastic and finally got it reinforced with enough goop that it will hang in there. I have had the fender plastic (red on my machine) get pushed in but was always able to pop it back out. It was flexible enough that it would not break. Well, I changed that!! I caught a nasty looking tree limb stump just above my front right tire and under the fender. The angle was about as bad as it gets and I was not going very slow. The end result was the front fender geting RIPPED all the way over to the air filter. Man, what a pisser. A little duct tape let me finish my riding for the day. I have since gooped the hell out of the underside and have it fairly well reattached; enough that it will probably stay reattached. But, boy is that crack ugly!

Anybody have any suggestion on how to cover up the jagged looking crack? Eventually, I will spring for new camo plastic, but for now, my money is being saved for new tires and a jet kit.

when i cracked my fender I took my soldering iron to the outside of the crack, it has a flat piece that I used to smooth out the crack/sort of melts it all together for a smooth look, then used some super fine sand paper. Just something i did.

 

You may want to keep a eye on www.ebay.com for a used red front fender, there was one on there not to long ago, up for bid.

 

I've had some luck with having fenders plastic welded. It leaves a line where the crack was
but if it's done right it can be quite strong and not too noticeable.

Also, you mentioned changing to camo in the future. Don't know if your interested but keep an
eye on ebay. There have been a few sets (new - complete) of camo sold over the past few weeks in
the range of $280 - $330. Might be an option.

I have '02 red plastic..........all BUT the front, sorry!

 

If you take it off, clean it, tape it so it is straight, sand it with coarse, and use goop with spend dryer sheets to keep it thick, your repair may work pretty well for a while.

there is a company, www.plastex.net that makes a better plastic repair than goop.

I use goop, but when it is too cold goop can give in.
