Hensim 50cc ATV Ignition Help
#1
First off I would like to say I found this forum at the beginning of the week searching for information. I have found a great deal of information that has helped answer most of my questions about this ATV.
So here's my question looking for answers. The 50cc ATV is missing the key. The ignition has 6 wires coming out of it. I don't have it on me right now to tell you what color wires it has. I'm assuming from what I read that the standard is 4 wire and the extra 2 wires is to power the lights, which it does have though they're busted. Do I look for a new 6 wire ignition switch or can I wire in a pole switch to turn the power on and off that will still control the power to the lights as well? If so, what type of pole switch would I need? That I can get right away where I would have to order the ignition.
It does start and run. I unhooked the remote module (remote FOB was missing) and removed the tethered kill switch. Applied the brake and hit the start button. I stuck a screwdriver in where the key would go. It just keeps clicking no matter which way I turn it. I must have it at a spot that it starts. I need to adjust the idle on the carb yet because it revs high.
Also, I'm stopping at a local ATV shop today to buy a chain because that was missing also. Seems that they take a 420 chain, but does anyone by chance know how many links it needs?
Thank you all in advance!

You need a 6 wire switch. Try to get the right one for your machine or the plug and wiring colours will be different, and you would be guessing which wire joins to which. Guess wrong and you will have a blown fuse and possibly a blown CDI.
Take your old chain with you, that way you will get the right one.

As for the ignition switch, it's 6 wires and at the plug where it connects, then it's 4 wires. So, I'm assuming I could buy a 4 wire ignition switch? Just make sure the wires are right.

Doubtful, four wire switches contain two separate switches in one unit and are either on or off. Your switch needs two positions for on, and the internal wiring is on, and on plus lights, or maybe three positions, on, hi beam, and lo beam. If there is no kill wire connected to the switch, this would indicate DC ignition and mean that a two wire switch, connecting live from battery to power wire for start button, CDI etc, would work, leaving the lighting wires disconnected.

Thanks for your response. I'll look for the correct ignition switch. This is one area I lack, understanding the wiring. Right now, I just unhook the battery terminals so it doesn't drain the battery.
