Quality issues with the 2005 DS 90?
#1
I don't know if my expectations are too high or if Bomb really @#@$s?
I bought a 2005 DS90 3 months ago and I have had nothing buy problems with it, the dealer doesn't help either. I live in Florida so most of thier riding is in sand.
It was the first ATV my boys have had so i expected some abuse, but geessh.
The tie rod is bent
The rear sprocket is broke
The front sprocket cover is broke
The shift selector fell off
The bolts are coming through the rear fenders
and the chain keeps coming off and wrapping all up, they say the bolt was taken off??
the total bill comes to over $700 and the dealer won't cover any of it. He says I'm ridiculous!
I was just wondering is this is normal wear and tear for other Bomb owners? are my boys that abusive? were my expectations too hight? or have I been taken? You guys seem to have the experience to know better than I. I have since learned that Bomb was not the best choice, but what do I do now?
And I can't find a phone number for Bomb customer service, only warranty and they deal with the dealer too.
Any stories you can offer would help.
Thanx
Peggy

If you want to escalate higher then your dealer, try surfing some of the info within:

To me...
- If a Tie Rod bends while doing normal driving (and the front tire didn't hit the side of the trailer while loading / unloading it), this "should be" covered under warranty.
- If normal driving, sprockets should NOT be coming off &/or sprockets breaking. Racers & rough trail riders do encounter chains coming off. To help stop this, they install Spring Loaded Chain tensioners. Does your DS-90 have a spring loaded chain tensioner? Is your chain the proper tightness?
- bolts coming through the fender? First time I've heard of this one - especially on a 3 month old machine.
On one of our deep trail runs, my son & I encountered another father / son pair and his son had a '04 DS-90 2 stroke unit. They were very pleased with its quality and performance. For them, it was "press on the gas and go" since day one...

I have a 05 DS90 and cant say the same. My son has rolled it several times. Each time no damage and starts right up. As far as maintenance goes. I check the oil, gas, air filter and chain before each ride. No problems. I will say that the Quad makes it up hills I never thought it could. I know kids will be kids but wow. I would make sure you chain has the right tension before each ride that will probably eliminate 3 of your problems.

When I see bent tie rods I get REALLY suspect about abuse. Tie rod ends just don't bend when you just ride around. They bend when you wack into something or run over something. I get even more suspect when I don't hear alot of one part failing on one machine. For example, I know the tie rods on a V force are a little on the light side because a few people are bending them and posting about it.
When I see one abused part, I go looking for more abuse on the same machine. Looks like your dealer did the same.
