new cobra 70cc race quad
The EXC70 will not run in any production class this year cuz they will not have 100 made by march.
They should never be able to run in any production class! There will be a "automatic/no hand clutch" rule in place for the 2006 race season.
This is a "have to" or anyone racing a Kasea/LT80/etc. might as well plant flowers around them.
After spending $$$ on a kasea/LT80 do you want a shifter quad out there whoopin on your rider? I don't think so.
The EXC70 has a place, it's the 70cc or 90cc modified class. They indeed need more entrys in these classes.
I give the Cobra Co. all the credit in the world for making this new quad, but I will not allow it to ruin mini quad racing as we know it!
Through the year alot of these posts will be seen. PLEASE contact your AMA/ATVA congressman. Explain to him or her that the EXC has no place among automatics and that we indeed want the quad, but want it where it belongs, with other shifters.
Thanks,
Jack

i understand what your saying,BUT you should not penilize a manufacture for building a better product than others.if yamaha or honda built a simaler quad there wouldnt be a problem would there?mabey this will push other manufactures to build kids quads with more than a few inches of suspension travel. if its a production quad its a production quad!imo

I agree with that.
I just don't expect the big 4 to make a shifter quad tho.
Again, I don't have a problem with Cobra and the EXC70, just with the class(s) they presumed they could run in. To say "a production quad is a production quad" doesn't exactly cover the bases. There has to be more to it than that. A shifter quad running with auto mini's can not be fair or even close.

The reason the Cobra shouldn't run the production class is that it is the same as all the other shifters out there . The motor is out of there two wheel motorcycle the frame is made by ahrens which makes it no diffrent than if you purchase a JB or fisher quad so if you allow cobra to compete lets change all the rules accordingly and Allow the aftermarket frame companies and motorcycle engines in the pro production class also.

i agreee with the shift to auto complaint somewhat,example.. if 4 manufactures build a auto quad and one or two build a shifter why should the two be banned from a production class?they shouldnt, the other manuf. should step up.
i think with little guys a only auto class whould be a great class for kids that are not yet ready for a shifter quad, but it should be a differant class for them.production auto mabey.
if some other chassis manufactures was to go in with a atv/motorcycle manufacture and build enough quads to be considered a manufacture GREAT,guess what the liitle quads will get better and cheaper because of competition.
just think if ktm was to jump on the band wagon with one of there 65 motors in a quad chassis.if said quad was built should it only run against one off quads because its too good to be considered a production quad...NO!
i see the points everyone is making and realize that if you have a little one racing now and doing good with what there riding were dad might be thinking its going to cost$$$$$ to stay competitive, but in the long run the kids would benifit with better off the floor product.
my kids are close to the age of getting a quad, the choices are crap!lem seems to be the only one that offers any suspension at all and theres plenty of things on them that a crude to me.
and as far as the motorcycle engine complaint, all the curent factory sport quads have motors based off of ,or damn near identical to the motorcycle counterpart they derived from,banshee,blaster,raptor,yzf450,trx450,ltz400,4 00ex,cannondale,gasgas,and many more!
the little kids deserve to have good stuff to

Derby King you act like the Cobra has no class to run in they do it is the 0-70 mod class against other shifters which the Cobra is roughly half the price as all other competitive quads in that class why would you want to let them run against the automatics ? The Ama sepererated the 50 class into three diffrent classes (automatic oil injection, junior and senior class) they did this to keep the sport growing . If they allow the Cobra to compete in the 70cc production class you will see the class dewindle to very few riders.

I agree the cobra does not belong in the class with auto machines. I a perfect world you would hope the other big 4 would set-up and build a race ready mini, but this world is far from perfect and i do not see this ever happening. If you can remember those warnings that were rivited all over your little machines that said something about no one under 12 years old riding them let alone racing them. I know the big 4 do not want to draw any attention from the CPSC if they do not have to. I just hope the cobra does not get the CPSC all over these little race machines that we have running around. I know for a fact last year when they had all those meetings the CPSC had no clue that we even raced atvs. Sure hope it stays that way.

Kids dont have a good stock choice in quads. My son rode a quad at a early age only to switch to a ktm. If there was a (real) stock mini quad I would have purchased it. You can't argue about the ktm's suspension, it is very safe for a young fast rider. I wanted something for him to progress on without spending thousands on parts. Good luck to Cobra.
