Of course, you do not need to register any atv in Ca. you just can't transport them on a public roadway or use them at a OHV park. If you want to be able to use the atv's "legally" at an OHV park, they need to be registered in the State of California.

It sounds like the bottom line is that no manufacturer makes a new Green Sticker 50cc ATV. Thanks for all the input.

You may not like this idea, but why not just get the 80 and it's Green Sticker and then change the decals to those of a Raptor 80, you could even go to the smaller wheels as well, which would serve to further limit the 80's speed. An 80 limited to the speed of the 50 on the Exact Same frame and suspension would be every bit as safe for an under 12 year old as the 50. That way any ranger would see your green sticker, could check your VIN for legit green sticker status, and see your child on a 50... You may even be able to find the entire plastic bodywork of a Raptor50 for sale on eBay.

2004YFZ450,
I would probably do what MrD suggested and buy the Raptor 80 but I would change the tires and possibly the gearing on the rear sprocket. Limit the throttle, and change nothing else. No need to draw attention to yourself if you do get pulled over by a Ranger who knows his quads and sees that your trying to hide something with different plastic. In California the child's age and the engine displacement are recommendations for parents to follow. You will not be cited for your child riding on an 80cc. Now if you tell the dealer when you buy the quad that your child is 5 then they will not sell you the quad. Also when your child goes to take the ATV safety training course you will need a 50cc ATV. If you already have the cert. your child does not have to take the course but will have to ride with you at all times. Which of course will always happen because I hope that no parent would allow a 5 year old to go and ride by themselves. Has your child been riding with you already? How long can a 5 year old ride before they lose interest or want to go back to camp? My kids were older when they started riding. At the time my son was 12 years old and he could stay out all day. My daughter was 8 and she was good for about 2 to 3 hours. We mainly trail ride, we do not ride in the sand.
Go here for California Laws and Safety Requirements for Off Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation:
Laws and Safety
Remember, that your young child will probably only get contacted by a Ranger if he or she is drawing attention to his/herself. If your child is riding with you in a normal and safe riding manner, chances are you will not be pulled over. However, if your child is out on his/her own, riding fast and/or in a crazy manner, you will probably have a Ranger speaking to you. It all depends on where you ride. If your at Cal City you will probably never see any law enforcement. Hungry Valley they are all over the place, Dove Springs, Jawbone, not too many out there. Sometimes we ride a short fire road trail in Santa Barbara and have never seen any rangers out there either. It just depends on where you ride and what your are doing.
Anyways good luck. I hope your child has a good time riding with the family on his/her new quad.
Have a good one.
SB.

You don't "have to" be. The Age guidelines on kids ATV's are just that...Guidelines. There is no LAW against a 10 year old riding a 90cc....
The dealer is required to ask, upon purchase....and isn't supposed to sell you a 500cc ATV to a 10 year old.
To me...it's all about parenting. My daughter has driven my 700 when she was 13. She's as careful as they come....and creeps around like Ms. Daisy.
My son? I wouldn't let him sit on it with the keys within 100 feet!
