Bought this ATV new for my daughter for Christmas. Put it togehter, charged the battery, did the oil change, etc. Ran fine, no problems. She drained the battery one day and I have had problems since. The company I bought it from is having trouble helping me, even though I have a warranty. Maybe you guys could save me the headache of dealing with them. Charged the battery again, connected it and nothing. Bought a portable power station (pretty much a 500 cranking amp jump kit)...nothing. It tried to catch when it turned over but no luck. I even tried jump starting it off the car battery.This worked a few times. Then when I went to jump it the other day it started for a sec and then shut off. Now it will not turn over, just a slight click is all you can hear. The brake light lights up but it just will not start, not even turn over now. I would take the thing to a shop but I don't have, nor do I know anyone with a truck...this is such a pain. Please help if you might have any ideas for me. Thank you.

Id guess youve got a short somewhere. Assuming youve checked to make sure the kill button isnt switched off and the brake lever is pulled in while your starting it. Id look for a bad wire connection and or a bad ground wire. The crimp connectors on some Chinese quads are not really connectors. They are too loose. You can tighten them up with a pair of pliers. (gently squeezing them).

 

Thanks for the info. I spent the afternoon going over all connections and I can safely say they are secure. However, this did not solve the problem. I hooked up the power pack to the battery cables...from there I traced the two wires to a small (brass colored) circular (switch?) where the two battery wires connect. This switch makes a click sound when I try to start the 4 wheeler...just one click each time I press the start button. ****I know the bike is getting SOME power, as the brake lights and alarm system are working fine. Any further ideas? Could this brass switch thingy be faulty or no? I AM AT WITTS END HERE, lol!

Is this "brass colored" "switch" connected to one one side to the battery with a big heavy gauge (thick) wire? And the other side (also heavy gauge wire) goes to the starter? If so then this is the starter solenoid, which is a relay (a kind of remote operated switch). Starters draw a lot of current - much more than can be routed through those tiny start, ignition, and safety interlock switches - so the start button and associated wiring send a signal to the start solenoid coil which magnetically shorts the two big terminals together.

1) Measure the voltage on the starter motor terminal to engine ground while pressing the start button and the relay goes "click". Hold the start button down while you take this measurement. Report back the voltage.

2) Also while you do #1 above, turn on the headlights (or brakelights) and report back whether they stay lit or go out when you hold down the start button and the starter solenoid goes click.

3) Short the two big terminals of the start solenoid together with a screwdriver. Minor sparking is OK. Does the starter turn? If the igntion is on does the quad start?

Neither do I, but that doesn't stop me. This is what I do:



My wee little honda civic hauls around my quad no problem. The trailer I got from HarborFreight.com for $250 (the yellow stakes were a little more).

This is one of the best dang things I ever bought. But there's more than just what you see. The trailer tilts to the ground like a dump truck, and I just drive my quad up on board. After I'm done, the trailer folds in thirds, tilts up vertical (onto those little caster wheels in the back), and stores in a corner of my garage taking up only a 2 foot by 5 foot space.

Who needs a truck? I get 38 MPG in the honda. When I need to haul I hook up the trailer (and get about 26 MPG).
