Default Possible carb issue

so my 05 baja 90 has been sittin for 2 years. after fixing a no spark issue i got it running, and it ran to the front to the back of the yard and then started to die out on me. all after that id would idle but if you give it throttle it dies. now let me not forget to mention that i had to pull the carb and clean out some brown gas and crud out of it to even get it started the first time. so i pulled the carb again lastnight and pulled the jets out along with the float and flushed out all of the ports and made sure all of the il holes on the jets were clear and spraying. spent a few hours on that. its still hard to start. if i hand choke it(cover the throttle opening with my hand i can get it to start sometimes. once gettin it running once for the day it will continue to start up on its own. should i look into a possible new carb or carb rebuild? ill try to do a compression check today i dont know if my compression tester fits this thing but ill find out.

Did you drain, clean, and refill the gas tank & lines with fresh fuel?

i didnt clean it but the tank was already drained when i got it then my buddy added fresh fuel to it, comes out of the fuel supply line crystal clear. when i hold my hand over the air inlet of the carb to choke it to get it to start my hand comes back full of gasoline.. is this normal? i thought the gas should stay behind that choke plate.. anyone know what the compression should be at? also could a weak battery causing these issues? my battery is dead so i jump start it with my handy dandy overpriced Husky jump box which is a very powerful box.

Well yeah I guess a bad battery could be partly to blame, You may want to throw a volt meter on it to see if you are charging. After sitting for a while, there is no telling what critters may have done to it. You may have chewed wires, or heck, I even had spiders build a nest in my fuel lines once. They can collapse as well. IF they are soft, then might close when running, then return to normal shape when it dies. Also, I'd can the fuel filters and make sure the petcock is flowing.

i went over the harness when i got it.. no rodent issues.. am i suppose to be checking the stator charging wires with the engine running? if so what should the range be? i am startin to think that its flooding. the atv will start and run no differently if the petcock is on or off. im not use to that. im used to a bike no running because the petcock is off and im use to bikes shutting off when u turn that petcock off because its suppose to be blockin off fuel supplyl. so might i need a carb or parts for the petcock?

Battery charging issues have nothing to do with spark on an AC powered CDIs (which you already verified in another post). You could take the battery out after the quad is started up and it will still run. You could unplug and remove the voltage regulator and it will still run. You could unplug the battery charge stator winding and it will still run. But of course once you shut if off the starter won't turn anymore, so unless you you have a kick start it will stay off until you reinstall the battery at least.

To see if your quad charging system is working, start up the quad and run it at a fast clip with the head lights off. Measure the DC voltage on the battery terminals. You should 13.5 volts DC to 14.5 volts DC. If you do the charging system is working.

I am not familiar with any carburetors but my own (150cc). On mine when you shut off the fuel petcock valve it takes several minutes for the engine at idle to drain down the float bowl and run out of gas. It only takes seconds to fill the float bowl back up if you turn the valve back on. So if you're not patient enough the quad will never run out of gas.
