*update*
I read on the forums with users experiencing similar ringing sounds, and the suggestions lead to either the starter or the gear in the front clutch. I hadn't screwed inall the left clutch cover bolts, only a couple, so I installed all the bolts I could find (eye roll, I know). I then started it up and the shriek or ringing noise is no longer there. So only a couple problems.
-carb occasionally leak gas
-still cuts out at full throttle. I cleaned carb prior to rebuilding top end, but it's possible something could have gotten back in. Also, I broke the tiny carb piece that the vent hose connects to. Is it possible that could be the issue? I will JB weld it back on and see.
also, what bolts/screws go here? I see nothing on the diagrams for this.
Bike has no power with a rider on. Stalls and dies. Reading through the many related threads for ideas.
would this be causing the problem?? This is only for the vent hose, so I wouldn't think so. Broke off of carb
haha, i viewed that carb today, but thought Jack would slap me for even looking at a chinese 15 dollar carb lol. I got it purchased, thanks for the recommendation.
I tried jb weld for the vent port piece, but it already fell off before I got the carb on,,,ughhh. Anyways, I cleaned the carb and seems to have drastically improved the power, main jet was clogged.
But......the ugly ringing sound has returned and kind of concerns me. I took a vid if needed. It sounds like old school landline phone ringing. Coming from behind the left clutch cover. Lube the starter gear?? I am thinking I need to tighten the nut on the front clutch, I dont think I hit 35lbs/ft torque. Also, at times I think I can hear the fins on the fixed face hitting the case?????? Thoughts????
The ringing is usually the starter end coming out and hitting the starter gear. The front clutch needs to be tight. I never knew a torque for it,
Maybe better go back in and see if anything is hitting and see what's up with the starter.
I tried to tighten the bolt, and with my 24volt impact, wouldn't go any tighter. So I went back in and removed the clutch cover, and noticed the starter is slid back into the atv, and doesn't engage the starter gear. The starter spins freely without touching the starter gear. I can pull, twist and slide the starter back out so it will contact the starter gear, but soon as I start the lt80 up again, the starter slides back in and doesn't engage the starter gear. Is this normal???
When you hit the button, the bendiz comes out and spins the motor. If it's spinning and not contacting, maybe it needs lubed. Maybe a new starter..
what a process getting the starter out. Cussing and throwing wrenches from a previous post of yours couldn't be more on spot. Finally pulled starter out and after I watched a couple videos on the starter, felt confident to dig in. What the heck. What do I lube? I can't disassemble the top portion. The bottom portion has me pissed off so just going to buy a new starter on ebay. Still curious
DB Electric on ebay.
I thought you may be able to spray some lube on the part showing to get it to work.. Maybe not.
I owe you parts or money.
right right........you owe me lol
We are forever indebted to you.
I will take another look at it tonight. From what I read, the main reason the bendiz/pinon does engage is, as you said, needs to be cleaned and properly lubed so that it can spin freely, then as it gains speed moves up to engage with the starter gear. Release the starter button and it spins back down.
