Let me give you a little background info... Me, Lonestarbanshee, and another guy that owns a ATC 250R are always talkin about who's ride would be the fastest in a short drag race. My Dale is completely stock, the ATC has a DG silencer, and lonestars 250 has... I don't know but it's got a lot. Well lonestar just got done w/ a rebuild and unfortunately, it still needs some of the bugs worked out of it. We raced on a little stretch of black top road that was maybe a little less than a 100 yards long (I'm bad at estimating) and we did a rolling start since on the road none of us had a chance in hell of keeping the front end down (it's a drag race, not a wheely competition).

Race #1... Me and the ATC lined up, slowly rolled in first gear and then took off. We were dead even and when I started reaching the top of 2nd gear he creeped about 1 ft. ahead and then I hit 3rd and creeped about 1 ft. ahead of him and then it was just that close the whole way until he topped out in 6th and I then started to pull away. It was a good close race.

Race #2... Lonestar and the ATC lined up, slowly rolled in first and then took off. They were close for a little while but then the ATC just pulled and pulled. Well, I knew that Lonestar's R is faster than the ATC so I got to wondering if it was even running right.

Race #3??? Me and Lonestar were headed towards the start and then all of a sudden it just died. He thought he was out of gas and when he looked in his gas tank, I noticed so much smoke rollin out of that pipe that Cheech and Chong would have been jealous . Everytime he kicked it, it would blow out a big puff of smoke.

Race #4... (you could call it #3 since me and lonestar didn't race)... Me and the ATC were racing again and this time we had a similar start but I was goin to see if I could rev it out a little longer and maybe that way I would beat him a bit more. Unfortunately I was hitting the limiter in 2nd, and 3rd and he beat me that time. I'm not using that as an excuse for losing... he won fair and square... it was my stupid riding. Shoulda gone w/ what works.

When we pulled the plug, him and DJ noticed that there was antifreeze on the plug so they figured out it was a bad head gasket. Well, it wouldn't get anymore spark anymore either, so it looks like it's gonna be another couple of days of work on the R to figure this one out.

If lonestarbanshee is going to replace the head gasket he should use one from an ATC engine. Something like the 85 ATC250R gasket. They are just a hair thinner then the the quad engine's gaskets and you get a little more compression out of them. Just a thought.

I also heard that they use CR head gaskets to get the same result.

YoDaddy,

A couple of questions...

Does the ATC have a "fresh" motor?
Is your Cannibal re-mapped and do you have a slip-on pipe?

Just curious because I know how my bike pulls and I'm seriously considering buying a Cannibal. I don't know anyone who owns a Cannibal so I've never had the luxury of a test ride.

THANKS.

The ATC doesn't have a fresh motor, and my Dale is COMPLETELY stock as far as performance mods go. All I have done is polish the frame, buy some AC nerfs, had the fenders shaved, a non-working Pro Design kill switch, and # plates. I was suprised that the ATC would give such a good race and he was suprised the Dale would be that fast. He couldn't beat me in the full distance because he would be tapped out by then and then I would easily pull away from him. Everyone there couldn't believe that a 4-stroke (especially a stock one) could run like that. If I would have had the 18" tamers, HMF slip on, and moto remapping, there wouldn't have been a chance in hell of him keeping up.

I had to hang my head in shame. My 250 got its rear tagged by a 4 banger. I'm sorry guys!

Everything he says is 100% true. The 1st drag(I was tightening my chain) was him and the ATC250R. I almost crapped in my pants when YoDaddy was KILLING it. At the end of the strip, they were just about dead even.

I made a couple dead passes on the R, and it didn't seem right. Thursday, it would make the DG bumper point to the sky in 6th tapped, and it wouldn't even pull them up in 5th today. Made me suspicious. After a couple runs back and forth down the road, I lined up with the ATC. We ran a "1st gear punch" which consisted of rolling in 1st gear until you get past the mail boxes, then race down to the other mailbox.(kinda hard to explain.. It's a Texas thing). Well, I laid on the R pretty hard, and it lagged every gear. When I rode it Wednesday, there was no way you could keep the front tires on the ground in 3rd or 4th, and they never left the pavement today. I gained about a quadlenght in 4th, but he pulled back away.

Next up, me vs. the Dale. All I gotta say is.. D@mn that thing is fast. He pulled me straight from the hole to 4th gear, where I closed in hard on him, and then... NOTHING! My R went up in a big ball of smoke. I suspected a melted piston or some serious malfunction, but there was anti-freeze on the plug. Word of advice: Don't buy a K&S head gasket. They are 3-ringed, and worth about 5cents. I will be replacing it with an 85 ATC for more compression.

The ATC is an 85 model, and I seriously doubt the piston has ever been changed. The rod is knocking, and the rest of it.. well, it's just trashed out. Still fast enough to beat me though.

oldguy, if you want the luxury of a 4 stroke, and the mid-range pull of a 2 stroke, you need to go visit your Cannondale dealer. His machine out-pulled mine in almost every gear, gear for gear.

You may have won the battle, but my friend, you are far from winning the war. When it is running right, and you still beat me, my cylinder will be taking a little trip to Altus, Ok.

I will have to say the the trike must have a real tired engine, considering its substantial weight differance from a 250r quad and a real big weight differance compared to the cannondale.

I was expecting my TRX to get the best of it. 38mm Air Stryker carb, UNI filter, Hy-Tech reeds and spacer, mid-porting, FMF pipe and silencer.

Yes, it is a VERY tired ATC.

yODAddy- Drag racing? lol. You better watch out, it can be additive. Glad to see the dale on top. I would like for you guys to come down this summer and ride a few times. We get quite a few from these forums down. It is not hard to round up a dozen raptors, ds 650's, shee's and 250r's. But we need a cannon in the mix. I am thinking that i am going to buy my kid a speed this spring! Anyway i plan on shooting some video this year at the track, the more the merrier.
