What is really going on in Michigan

Thanks I wasnt sure if you were referencing YZmans spelling. I might agree that a wider trail isnt necessarily a less challenging trail. But I would also say that vehicle choice and rider talent would make a difference too. If you dont mind another question. What percentage of "trail" would you like to see at 60"?

Slightly more specific, yeah. Most of us ATV'ers out here want wider and better maintained trails. Thats what I was referring to. Also, just because a trail is wider doe'snt necessarily mean that it can't be challenging.

Actually the way you put, it would mean less challenging. Reason being, you said "better maintained trails". I, and most ATV/Bike enthuasists want a trail that is maintained only by mother nature.
Again, I think that a part of trail systems should be "maintained" for the joy riders out there, but I would hang up my helmet if that is all I had to ride. No wonder I track ride so much anymore, which ironically, the tracks that I like maintained. lol

Sorry but Cycle trails for the most part can go without maintenence. You guys bikes are only what 24 inches wide at the handlebars? That means that you pretty much can go wherever you want and make a path if necessary. Think about the people, like myself, that are on a machine that is TWICE as wide at the least. Kinda limits your options on where we can and can't go does'nt it? Our trails, without maintenance, will be impassable (if I spelled that right). Your trails without maintenance will just be a little annoying but you'll still be able to ride.

Honestly I don't know. No number pops automatically into my head. But, I do have an answer, kinda anyways. Since the majority of the ORV population in Michigan seems to be snomobile and ATV oriented, to me it would only make sense that the majority of trail mileage in the state were widened to 60". Not saying that I think that people that ride bikes (I used to race a YZ125 for a few years when I lived in Florida so noone needs to come out and say that I'm anti dirt bike cause I'm not) should'nt be able to have some trails of their own, but since the majority of owners in the state ride ATV's, that makes me lean toward giving them the majority of the trails. Agree? Disagree?

Stunna, wouldn't disagree with that at all. But, if that did happen, I would think the cyclist would want some kind of guarantee that the 4 wheel users wouldn't ride thier trails, and thus take their enjoyment level away. Sadly that will never happen, as posted earlier in this thread where someone had the attitude, if I pay for it, I'm gonna ride it.
Hope that some day, an agreement can be worked out for all riders in that area, but judging from some replies here, it won't be anytime soon.

When I say better maintained trails I mean removing logs on the trail, cutting back brush to an aceeptable level, and so on. I did'nt say I want a F'ing highway to ride on. I would like wider trails yes. I don't want a flat track across the woods though. The way I put it did'nt mean less challenging at all. Like to know how you came to that conclusion.

I have spent way more time on a quad than a bike, and while a bike is easier to go places and I don't mean because of width, I can still get a quad to go about anywhere. Huge log removal....yes, accesive branches and brush....yes, but a few logs here and there are good if anything. It will keep the yahoo's that are new to the sport with fast quads flying through the trails. At least the logs will make them slow down or knock them silly. Sounds mean, but better they hurt themselves than innocent people. Tougher trails slow people down.

I complain about the fact that you cyclists choose to come on in here and lead these guys around due to simple ignorance or a willingness to look past things like maintenace-related legacies/ongoing environmental damage if Santa Cycle will build them a "big Detroit city" riding area right out their back door ...yet it's refreshing when your "by gosh its our <u>right</u>" mentality rears its oft-hidden ugly face now and again....making my job sooooo much easier. I dont know what BB is drinking tonight but I know I dont want any.
He states in his above post--
QUOTE*is the fact that no one motorized segment should ever demand that they access every motorized trail in existence...end of quote*
I've been riding since 1968 and have YET to find ONE SINGLE cyclists that has EVER demanded that they have access to every mile of motorized trail in exsistance. Where BB gets his thoughts from is BEYOND the TWIGHLIGHT ZONE..
This SANTA CYCLE stuff and building the ATVers a Big City Detriot riding area right out their back doors?????????????Man,,,,what is this dude ON?

The fact is that they already ride every motorized trail in existence (not enough; see quoted post above) and that there has (sadly) never existed a Michigan orv rider who put the environmental health and sustainable welfare of our present 3,000 mile trail system <u>in</u> <u>front</u> <u>of</u> their inarguably selfish desire to ride right outside their back door before said aformentioned responsibility was a reality.
Again, Muddy....carefully study the statement first...<u>then</u> hit the reply button.

You have lots of fun with your haywagon [Rhino].. How long does it take to get 3 bales of hay and your overweight a$$ from Leota to Mio? Further, how many bushel's of BS can you get in your dump box? Probably not as much as you can spread in 24 hours of sitting at your PC waiting to spread BS in here. Nobody needs to be careful before they hit the reply button to ANY of your comments because most of what you post is nothing more than creamy BS anyways, and most folks can see right thru that.
