New proposal aimed at banning motor-driven vehicles in Ogden - Public Hearing July 22, at 7pm Ogden Community Center.

Snowmobiles, ATV's, dirt-bikes etc... will all banned from this community with the proposed amendments. They are specifically targeting the off-road machines by placing severe noise restrictions on these only. The way it is written - it will be impossible to ride without the possibility of being arrested, fined, confiscation of vehicle, and having a criminal record!

Excessive noise is defined as ANY sound which is annoying or causes alarm, including incessant or repeated sounds that have the effect of disturbing the community, OR any sound in excess of 80 decibels. Decibel readings are to be taken at 10 feet away with the machine at it's maximum RPM level. (any machine will be in violation with that)

ANY person that witnesses a violation of the restrictions may file a complaint and the accused will be ticketed. (Anyone can make an accusation!)

The real kicker...Any violation will be deemed a MISDEMEANOR!!! (hefy fine and a criminal record for riding on your property)!

Looks like a may have to eat crow. I just read the minutes from the meeting. Wish I went...sounds like the people that were complained about did the right thing and tried to compromise and the people who hate the machines are not willing to budge.

ajd187...if you are "Mark" your comments were an eye opener.

I take back the clowns comment....

Thank you for your comments. Mark actually went to the Town Clerk and called her out regarding your comments....she denied it! You are not the only person we heard that from so we do know that the Town Clerks office was giving out the WRONG info. Not sure why they would do that other than to divert the attention away from the town officials who are trying to ban these machines. They need someone to blame. They made a big mistake - now they are receiving complaints from other areas regarding the noise from these machines. Just waiting to see what the end result is......

I'm just getting in on this one and it sounds like the old "Blame the object, not the person" deal. Why not deal with the individuals that are doing this riding at night? Deal with them and them only? But, it's the same old crap all the time. Blame guns and ban all guns instead of blaming the criminal.

Town of Ogden officials passed new amendments last week regarding noise and off-road vehicles.

Sound levels for motor vehicles cannot exceed 96 decibels measured at a distance of 25 ft when operated on public street.

Motor vehicles on private property - decibel emissions cannot exceed 96 decibels measured in accordance with the standards and procedures established by the SAE J1287 Stationary Sound Test Procedrues. (Suggested by the American Motorcycle Association)

This was a fair and reasonable resolution. It allows for noise restrictions without prohibiting the use of recreational vehicles driven on private property.

Glad to see that they reached a solution..

"Excessive noise is defined as ANY sound which is annoying or causes alarm, including incessant or repeated sounds that have the effect of disturbing the community"

Wouldn't the neighbors constant complaining be defined as "excessive noise"? :-)

glad to see the idiots finally reached a compromise w you guys.I feel for you in nj there isnt anywhere to ride.I see the same stupidity an no compromise w my town,if they aint idiots they are certainly faschists an/or socialists if they know it or not or even wanna admit it.We have Open space,no horses no quads mt bikes etc.The fine for riding or getting caught went from like 100 to over 2000 bucks. Im tired of this stupid bs an stupid people an all theses pointless laws.Found out from 1 of my co workers that town didnt quite have the money an if they designated like this audobahn society would give them the money they needed.Sounds like collusion an a total bunch of self interest bs to me if there ever was 1.stupid voters got axed an thieved again on this open space bill. What do Yall all think? As soon as I get some jing up im gonna buy 100 acres upstate ny,or wv no 1 will tell me what i can or cant do.
