See, "Mexico", for an example of what the drug lords can do to a city, state, or even country.

Stats showing people who drink one glass a day having less heart disease, or whatever it is they claim, is simply a correlation. It could be that people who make the choice to have only one glass are healthy (happy) people to begin with.
Doctors use products of cocaine and opium all the time. Under the avise of a dr, its safe. Right? So there is a safe amount. Is cocaine and opium a toxin? I don't know. I have seen people who use cocaine heal wounds remarkably fast.
Finally, if all drugs were legal, would more people use them? Just because drugs are legal, doesn't mean I'm going to use them and develop habits and become a menace to society. Are you? I have a whole cabinet of legal drugs I rarely use. I have diphenhydramine, NSAIDS, dextromethorphan, guaifenesin, and who knows what else.
This war on drugs has gotten so out of control, costs so much money, and does almost no good whatsoever... I think its the case where the cure is worse than the disease. Just like liquor prohibition, its just making the criminals rich and powerful while costing the tax payers untold trillions of $ in enforcement and housing prisoners for the trivial offense of possessing the wrong thing at the wrong time as if it were a violent crime. Its all very insane to me.
