The raptor 350 is an updated warrior, nothing special there.
If you want a hi po bike, you are looking at the raptor 660 and banshee 350. the first is a thumper, the second is a 2 stroke. As far as the laws go, dont worry about them. If you ride trails most of the time and want a low maintenence machine, go with the raptor. If you ride a lot of dunes and wide open spaces, the banshee is king. Get on the two and find out which fits you better. Do a search in the yamaha forum and you can learn almost anything there is to know about these machines. The fastest isnt really relevant, since they are nearly equal when stock. The banshee will be faster with less $ though.

okay this is a question i've always wondered and i've heard two different things.. and i know forums isn't about facts its about experience.. but which would win straight drag race? 350 banshee or a 660 raptor? i know its prob the oldest sport preformance rivalry.. but to me alot of others it still remains an unsolved mystery..

as for your question, is there a specifid reason why you are focusing on yamaha? or would you be willing to go outside of the family? alot of the 400's are good machines and there are ALOT of aftermarket mods for them just like the others you have listed

Ok, straight facts again, I have a banshee and a raptor and I had them when they were both stock too. The banshee will destroy the raptor in a straight drag once it hits the powerband, but if you're used to 4 strokes, you probably won't like it as it doesn't have hardly any bottom end. This is where the raptor will take the banshee. However if all you want is top speed or speed in general the banshee is the way to go. Plus it's cheap to upgrade. Mine is about 70 horsepower and I only have about $1000 in it. But if you like riding trails I would absoulutly recomend the Raptor. The banshee is an ok trail machine, but since it has no bottom end you have to keep it revved high and if you happen to hit the powerband, you're usually into a tree. For you though I would recomend the Raptor, but you will need to put a -1th front sproket on it or it won't be slow enough for the trails. Hope this helps
