wash the galvanized metal with muratic acid, rinse with clean water. allow it to dry and prime it as you would any other metal.

Check the paint department at Lowe's or Home Depot. Each have primers that require minimal prep work for painting galvanized metal. We have painted galvanized roofing with good results.

Don't do any sanding on galvanized metal without wearing a good resperator, most galvanizing contains lead.

I live in a rural area and I don't have the options of Lowes of Home Depot. I think I did find the Zinc Chromate primer at a local auto parts store. Will the white vinegar work on plain metal too or does it matter? I will try the vinegar on the metal tomorrow. I need to finish welding a couple of pieces on first.

ya what is exactly in those fumes beacause when i was in junior high and first learning to weld i was making something cant remeber and i was welding galvanizedx sheet metal and not wearing a resparator. i never like breather in fumes duuhh! but after that had like morning sickness and ocaisional nosiosness for a whole year. most of the symptoms of led poisioning to. all the doctors i went to thought my family was making it up cause they wanted attention or some wakked out thing like that. i found out that galvanized contains led about 3 years ago so i tie my ilnness to lead.
