My Advice, Get a hold of the court as soon as possible and be completely honest. Putting it off will only make things worse, that I can guarantee.

You are probubly going to end up in front of some kind of judge, not sure how formal it will be. Be respectful (yes your honor, yes sir, etc...) You will get a chance to explain your situation, like I said be honest. They will probubly work out something less severe than what you are looking at now. You will have to get insurance I would assume, It is not required in ca. I would go broke buying it for all my toys.
As far as a plea it will depend on how formal of a jude you end up in front of. "Guilty with a explanation" worked for me in traffic court many years ago.

Warrior,

I am not sure what state you live in, but I know here in Minnesota they have something called gpna, (guilty plea not accepted). The way that works is you talk to the prosecutor, explain yourself and what they basically do is give you a small fine ($160 or less) and if you do not get ticketed with a similar offense within 6 months they permanently drop it off your record. This was you don't even have to go in front of a judge. Just don't get caught a second time in six months because they will drop the hammer on you.

Hope this helps.

Ryan

PS Insurance is not mandatory in Minnesota either.

You were on a motor vehicle at the time.

I have heard of people riding in the desert in a 4x4, off road, get in a wreck, been drinking a beer. Instant DUI with an accident. Huge fines!
