Default Winch switch working backwards

Can anyone help. A buddy of mine went riding last weekend and sunk his rancher pretty good. his winch was working fine up til today when he noticed it was a little tight. when he pushed the rocker switch to let the cable out it went in. when he went to reel out the cable went in. this has never happened before. does anybody know why the switch is working backwards? its a warn 1.5 thanks for any feedback

I,m not being a smarty-pants, but it is more likely one of twoo things. First, turn to freespool and pull all the cable out, I have seen this happen bunches. Then with tension on the cable push on your switch in the "in" direction to wind cable back up. Possibly either all the cable was let out when you were stuck and in either direction the winch will eventually wind in the cable, the other option could be that the cable is "pinched" on the spool from reeling in in too much of a hurry. Either way freespooling all the cable out and re-winding it in the direction of the switch should take care of it. If that doesn't work, well then, I was wrong.

Thanks for all the feedback. We freespooled it out and held the switch in until it started to wind back in. it took about 20 seconds until it started to wind back in.
