Fun Factor Of A 4x4
#1
I was just wondering how fun 4x4 quads are. I was thinking about getting and older 350 4x4 quad with no 2x4 option, I was just wondering if they are as fun as 2 wheel drive quads. Can you slide around on snow or do any other things like burning out or other stuff like that. Please give me all you opinions
ps i may also be doin a little work with this quad so that is why i am thinking about a 4x4 quad

The key to "your" fun on a 4wd will be selectable 2-4wd.
The 4wd bikes are also quite a bit heavier which can make powersliding and and other types of playing more difficult. (Or dangerous)
I had always had 2wd until my latest purchase. (Oct. 2000)
While I can't play the way you want to as easily with this bike (Full time 4wd) My body is all the healthier!

If you can't run with the young dogs stay on the porch. If that doesn't suite you get a 4wd Ute quad and take the porch with you!

Greetings,
Its tough to slide a 4X4 because the front wheels kick-in to pull you out of it. I've done it on a dirt road, but rarely get much going. The real fun of 4X4 (to me anyway) is that "I can go anywhere -- nothing can stop me" feeling. Crossing creeks in winter, climbing muddy banks, charging through snow, crawling over logs, etc. I've found that the Recon goes just about anywhere the 450ES goes, but sometimes with more difficulty. I've also been surprised at how little the front drive kicks-in. Even in snow it really doesn't seem that involved in the whole thing. So unless you're looking at "bad footing" you could easily use a 2X4 for work. Check out the Rancher or Big Bear -- they come in 2X4 models and you'll save about $800 at the same time.

I agree with everybody else. Whatever you do I would get one with a selectable 4x4. After years of riding a lt250 and a Banshee everybody around here starting riding 4x4s, mostly because of the places to ride. I bought a Honda Rubicon and the same week two of my riding buddies bought scramblers. After riding for a day I hated the Rubicon. I rode my buddies scrambles and they were awesome. But by the end of the day both of them were towed back to the trucks for major mechanical problems. If it hadn't been for that I would have bought one. The Honda ran great but I just cant get into driving in 4wd all the time, cornering is terrible. I bought a Prairie 650 the next month and I love it. I can powerslide through the corners and get good wheelies on it.I guess it's just whatever type of driving that your used to. Good luck with whatever you buy!
