What can we do to prevent theft?
I've been reading about a lot of bikes, toy boxes and trucks being stolen lately. What can we do to prevent this from happening to us?
When I park my quad in the garage I put a padlock through one of the holes in the disc. This will prevent the quad from being ridden away........Unless the lock is cut. I also chain it to an old V8 engine block thats heavy enough to cause a hernia if one or 2 guys try to lift it
My neighbor just built a garage and he added things in the concrete to chain his bikes to.
What about at the dunes? Is it best to chain all the bikes together? I do this.
It seems that a cable would be harder to cut with a pair of bolt cutters than a chain. Prolly be there all night trying to hold a chain and hacksaw through it.
Maybe chain and cable all the bikes?
Toy boxes/trailers. Unless you remove the tires and brake drums (the drums hold the wheel studs) the thing is a prime target. Be a major PITA to remove/install the drums and wheels if you go out much.
Trucks/M-homes would be the easiest to prevent being driven off. Just remove the ignition rotor,or the battery. On distributerless stuff theres gotta be a circuit breaker or fuse for the computer or fuel pump........Pull out the fuse/breaker.
If they drag it off with a strap or load your truck on a flatbed these ideas wont work.
Any other ideas?

Insurance is a good thing for sure. WHen I'm parked at the dunes I always lock up at night with a 9/16" cable lock. I figure theives will go for the easier target so some lock is at least a deterent to make them move to an easier target. At home I lock the quads together and try not to advertise.
My travel trailer has a hitch lock - not sure how good it works but it's a deterent at least.

"Beretta of Omaha" I like this policy. My policy is "Side by Side of Progressive" Shells loaded with nails. That was Doc Holiday's favorite load.
I have cable locks, alarm on garage, and chain quads together. Plus keep them in the part of the garage not visible from the street.
One of the best thing you can do is to be good to your neighbors. That way they will watch your stuff too.

I guess I'm lucky because I live in a small town. My one neighbor leaves his atv out for weeks at a time and he has two garages. The only problem with relying on a gun is that you have to catch them. I love locks and there's most likely improvements that can be done to keep people out in the first place. I also like motion lights and dogs too.
The only problem is that if someone really wants something then there's always a way to get it or get caught trying. I remember a kid broke through a block wall at a tire garage only to steal a couple tires. He did get caught.
Doors with regular locks and deadbolt locks are easy to pop open. I like to reinforce the metal plates with super long screws and even replace a metal plate with 2 screw holes with one with 6 screw holes. I also like to run a L shaped piece of metal down over the dead bolt and reg. lock. It would be screwed into the door jamb behind the plates that the locks slide in. When the door is shut the other part of the L presses against the door. This makes it harder to pry between the door and jamb by the locks or even sliding a card in to open the door. There are alot of different ways to improve different types of doors.
