alchohol or not?

I have thought about putting my Honda cr500 motor on alky just for dragging up sand mountain. How much of a difference does alky make? and what is required to do it. Right now my motor is already ported, head milled, cpi drag pipe, bored carb, boyeson rad valve. I dont know where else to go except alky or nos for more power. Anyone who has any advice on other options for more power would be great also

Alky will make it go much better, not to mention it wont overheat on you if it's jetted right. More blowdown on the cylinder (more exhaust duration) would be helpful, but not always a necessity. Alky also makes a nice torque gain, not that you need anymore with that big motor.

I wont ever run thet crap again. Cinsider this. first off you need a fuel pump and new carb. hotter spark. Imagine your bike getting half the milage through the dunes. Youll only get obout a 1- hour dune ride max till your out of fuel. You haft to purge after verey ride or long break. Its very hard on seals and bearings. Its hard to dial with ouit a E.T.G. whaen its all said and done your getting about a 15 hp gain maybe more. Know you can get the boondocker kit 20hp shot 800 $ but same milage no fuel pump and half the fuel to drag out there. and your top enp will last a lot longer. to me juce is the way to go for our bikes. I'm not saying dont do it. I would love the feed back on a cr500 on alky but in the long run using nitrous will most likly be cheeper and a lot less head ake and put out + or more power. I would use a E.T.G for either though.

Hey, I just ordered two 36mm Mikuni carbs converted to Alcohol for my Banshee... I will post the results in the future... My buddy has Nitrous on his Banshee, its a wet kit and his bike runs pretty good... However he has blown out his crank seals once already...

I just got back from the dunes today. There was a yamaha yfz450 on alky, a few banshees and a 250r that he said had a 360 kit. Those alky bikes were just so much faster then any gas bikes out there. Im going to do some more porting and things this winter and try to figure what I can to get the most out of my motor on gas or race fuel. Then I will look more into nos or alky. I was close to keeping up with the 450 that was on alky but he was 4 miles an hour faster then me at the top of the hill. He also probably weighed 100 pounds less then me he was probably 150 lbs im 250 so thats a big difference in weight alone. If I go alky I know im going to need to get another bike for duning fun and keep the 500 just for racing the mountain.

i recently made the alcohol switch back in march and have been well satisfied.yes, there's more maintenace but the power is there along with lower operating temps.i've been using ftz 35.5mm mikuni's with a powerjet and haven't had any problems.
