Honda forum......
I presume you are talking about a conversion to the sportclutch????? A beter solution would be to just sell the Recon, and get a 250EX (which is a substantial 50 pounds lighter, and a lot more fun!).
We have an older 250EX with the standard autoclutch and a newer one with the sportclutch, and while the sportclutch is nice for learning to shift, I don't really see any performance advantage there. I don't think the conversion would be worth the trouble or expense......

Are you trying to do the sportclutch conversion, or just getting rid of the ES????
The teenagers in here were in diapers when I was riding a Recon!!! Still, the 250EX is the same machine and 50 pounds lighter, so I now prefer it.....

By the time you do enough to a recon to really get any kind of noticable gain in perfornance you'd have been able to trade up to a better machine with less money. No matter what you do it's always going to be slow, it's 12 horsepower and has zero aftermarket support...
Want the best of both worlds, sport and utility? Consider something like a 2004 or older yamaha wolverine. Nearly double the power of the recon, 4 wheel drive, and they're pretty sporty for a 4x4 and can still be found for fairly cheap. A good thing about the recons is they always seem to hold their value. I actually sold mine for the same price I bought it for after riding it for 3 years.
I know what you mean about wanting to keep your recon. I really loved my recon and didn't want to get rid of it either, I had big plans for it. I was going to swap a 250ex motor into it to get that extra horsepower and taller gearing, then put works shocks on it all the way around and get extended axle and a-arms. All kinds of stuff. Then when I actually sat down to thing about it, I'd have been spending $1600 to make a recon better, when for $800 plus trading the recon I could get a machine that in it's stock form is better in every category. Back when I traded my recon in 400ex's and z400s were still fairly new to the market, and were still out of my price range for a used one, so I traded the recon for a warrior. The first time I had mechanical problems with my warrior I wanted the recon back, but since then I haven't regretted it.
