2005 Sportsman 700 (carb) not starting, seems completely dead now
#11
It is the silver-finned model. The battery is holding just below 13V, but drops significantly while cranking, likely because of the starter draw. This was noticed before everything went dead, obviously.
I know for a fact that the starter is bad, possibly the bendix. Trouble is, it won't run anyhow unless the ECM works. I did not smell anything near the ECM, nor did I find any melted wires. It may still be dead, but I won't know until it cranks, which means the starter needs to be addressed. A fresh battery would certainly help motivate the starting process.
This **** could only happen during the holiday season, while I'm actively trying to sell it and in the process of buying land to build a new house. At least I'm not stranded in the middle of nowhere with it. Poor quad may sit like this for months, maybe even a year before I can do anything with it. Sad, really.

May not be as bad as you think. Check this place out on cheap starters. DB Electrical - Polaris Plus just pull the spark plugs and ground to the engine and tap the starter to see if you can turn the engine over and see if you have spark. If you do then the ecm should be okay and hopefully it's just a starter problem as you mentioned plus maybe a new battery if the old one isn't up to snuff! OPT
