hi, 1st the old scramblers were front end chain driven... so if you are talking about a new machine, it's shaft driven.

in the snow, the height of the rear axles is a big issue, but in the mud it's not that bad, still some times i'd like to have it higher from the ground.

if you want a machine to go in the mud, the real and deep mud, i'd say go with a Sportsman. My dad got a SP 500 2001 and he's 50 Years old and realy not a mad driver... he's kinda grandpa's ride. but when we hit the deep mud or the swamp, even though he's driving too slow he always make his way better then me. i've got a 2001 4x4 scrambler 500.

i love my machine, it's hell of a ride, fast, powerfull, 4x4, handles very well, goes way better then any sports quand in the mud. but honestly, will never get to the hankle of a sportsman in the rough, muddy and swampy terrains.

so if you want to ride in the mud ALL THE TIME, get a sportsman.

hope it helps !

I already did answer that question
I haven't had a problem yet. The 4x4 will pull you through almost anything. A 3" taller rear tire would raise it 1.5" But them you would have to go with a 4" taller front tire to keep the 1" difference between the front and rear tires for the 4wd to work correctly

just a thought:

if you get 3" bigger rear tire and 3" bigger front tire, you still have a difference of 1" between the 2

if you use a tire 4" bigger now you have a 2" difference.

think about it !!!
